I just installed a 4 ft firestick on a side mount on my vehicle. When trying to tune on the SWR meter, I'm having trouble. I calibrate both channels 1 & 40 but when I flip the switch on the SWR meter, I can't get any lower than a 6.2. I have the antenna adjustment as low as it will go. Anyone have any suggestions?

On my Chevy Tahoe I had to bond the cab to the fenderWells using flat braided ground strap.
Measure DC resistance from the antenna mounting location down to the frame and Battery and tell us what you founddhawkins01 Thanks this. -
Is ther metal or plastic where the mount is ???
But def you need more ground -
Hummer H3 should be the same as a Chevy Colorado I would think. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if those are fiberglass panels specifically for the H3

I installed this side mount. Two studs through the body to a back plate that is (I assume) grounded to the body. The top stud connects the main lead from the antenna to the radio. There is a nylon bushing between the connector and the body. Then there is a ground connection connecting the cable shield to the bottom stud. There is no nylon bushing on that one so it is directly grounding to the body. I guess there's always the chance the body piece is not actually grounding anywhere, but you'd think it is. The picture of the wiring below is not my actual truck, just pulled it off the web to show how it's wired.

You're going to need an OHM meter to solve the problem.
A lot of guys are using this mount

Nice clean looking install, I like it. Let us know what u find.
dhawkins01 Thanks this. -
I finally got around to checking this. I ran an ohm meter between the antenna spring and the battery ground, read about 9.0. I didn't test it from the grounding stud yet as I have to take out the wheel well housing to get to it. Ideas?
