Yep. Maybe not quite to that extent, but it has happened. Customers get rather irked when you sit at the gate for 5 minutes before coming to talk to them. Especially when you're blocking their only entrance.

Besides that, I really can't wait the five minutes each time I have to leave the truck for an unknown amount of time. Think about it. If I had to do that even just five times a day, between fueling, breaks, customers, etc., that would be 30 minutes out of my day, every day, totally wasted. And any time I push those brakes back in for any reason, I'd have to wait another five minutes...

And to the poster suggesting the cruise + resume/accelerate: Once again, I've tried that and more...please read the thread. Thanks.

P.S. I have not yet pled my case to management. I've been too busy with bugging them to get me back home on time for doc appointments to bug them about this too. One thing at a time is sometimes already too much for them to handle...

Being somewhat rude does not really help. After all, it was just another driver trying to help. Could have just said, thanks, already tried that and then left it alone.

Except I've already said that a few times. It gets just a little frustrating when people don't read the thread before posting. For all they know, since they didn't read, the issue may have already been solved and all that's being discussed now is related conversation.

I had no intention of being rude. Just direct.

    Anyway, I digress.

Lmao. I'd have better luck with management. That I can promise..but, shhh, don't tell anyone; it's a secret...

As for the Regen, it only works when a Regen is needed. Being a team and never idling, parked regenerations are never needed. Try it when it isn't needed, nothing happens...

Scottie, can you please take pictures of your generator setup, both stowed and in use? I'm having a hard time visualizing the setup the way you described. Thanks...

Why are you doing this? Are the batteries so weak the truck will not restart? Turn the truck off unless you REALLY need to idle it. My 09 Volvo's batteries are strong enough that the only time I idle the truck is for a 3-4 minute warm-up after a cold start and 3-4 minutes of cool down after a hard pull.

Steve, please forgive my directness here, but did you read the entire thread or even my original post...at all?

Why do I need to idle more than 5 minutes at a time? I'll quote my original post:

"This [idle cutoff] isn't going to be 'okay' come summer. There are times where I or my student have to step away from the truck for more than 5 minutes while the other is sleeping and can't wait around 4.5 minutes for the light to come on. In any temperature over 80F, the interior of the truck will quickly rise to unhealthy temperatures, causing whomever was sleeping to wake up and have to start the truck. This isn't conducive to restful sleep, which is already hard enough when you're bouncing down the road or worrying about an accident (as in my case when a student is at the wheel)."

    Does that answer your question?

Please folks, read the whole thread before posting!!

Absolutely brilliant. Looks like I can pick up a 2000 watt portable generator for right around a thousand bucks. Then maybe I'll grab a portable a/c for $300-$400.

Is this one similar to the generator you're running?

This may be a great solution for the never ending idle restriction problems...

Edit: 'Course it would take a year's worth of getting the quarterly bonus in order to recoup the cost, but it still looks worth it.
