Wow!
I'll be doing that from now on.
It is far simpler than waiting a whole 5 minutes and depressing the clutch or hitting a couple buttons.
Thanks!!!

I can see myself now: I'm under the truck doing all of this, burning my hands and knees on piss and diesel soaked concrete in the middle of summer. Fifteen minutes later, I'm finally done, my truck has already shut off on me, I'm dirty as hell, and the manager of the Loves I'm stopped at, comes out to complain that I'm holding up the fuel island...
Yep, I can idle as long as I need so long as I wait 4.5 minutes for the light on the dash to come on and then press the accelerator. My issue is when I don't have 4.5 minutes to wait.
I just lost the best driver manger I've ever had to a dedicated account I can't be on so we'll see how my new one does. He has already done one thing that irritated me, but when I told him how I'm running my truck, he backed off. He then did a good thing and got me routed through somewhere I needed to go. So, card counters, the count is 0.
I say this to say that I'm hesitant to bring anything up just yet...scottied67 and inkeper Thank this. -
That is to override an engine that has shut down (by the engine protection circuit) - due to a major failure (like oil run out) - and move it to a safe haven or off the road.corneileous Thanks this. -

Can any truck equipped with idle shutdown have idle shut down overridden by having the clutch pedal fully depressed while idling?
If holding the clutch pedal fully depressed is viable option, Harbor Freight sells an adjustable 2-in-1 Support/Cargo Bar at: http://www.harborfreight.com/2-in-1-support-cargo-bar-66172.html that can easily be modified to accomodate various trucks and dimensions from seat to clutch pedal. -
No, holding the clutch pedal fully depressed for any length of time is not a viable option.
Pressing the clutch pedal down to the floor momentarily on a Prostar, within 30 seconds of the idle shut down warning lighting up on the instrument cluster, will override idle shutdown.

you stated the cruise control wouldn't override the idle shut off. Did you do it this way: when truck is idling, turn on cruise control; push the 'acc' (accelerator) button on the steering wheel and bump up the rpm's; then push the 'dec' (deccelerate [sp?]) button on the steering wheel and let it return to normal idle. That should do hopefully.

I have a '13 Cascadia with the same problem..
-Cruise Control "high idle" doesn't work... I mean it raises the rpm but the engine still shuts down after 5min.
-Engine Shutdown Override.. works to stop the shut down.. after 5min it tries to shut down again, so I duct taped the switch in the on position.. no dice. Engine still shuts down unless you remove the tape, releasing the switch then clicking it again.
-Clutch depressed, doesn't work. and for the record the clutch brake only gets fried if you're moving and depress the clutch all the way. Sitting still it won't hurt it. Doesn't work anyway so irrelevant.
-Tractor brakes off.. doesn't work.
-I'm going to skip the whole "disconnect the driveline/jack up the drives." ideer.
I think I've got it figured out though....
I need a giant one of these to "blip" the throttle every 4 minutes..

I've learned to deal with it by buying a simple kitchen timer and Velcro it to the dash. I set it for 4.5 minutes and start it as soon as I take my foot off of the clutch. When it goes off, the light on the instrument panel has just started flashing. If you rev the engine gently for about a second, it will idle until it runs out if fuel.
It's a pain as a team; you're in a hurry, every minute you sit at a truck stop or rest area is a mile you could be down the road, but you have to waste almost 5 minutes just to make sure your student doesn't fry while he's trying to sleep and you're trying to pee and grab a bite to eat. Add in the time spent inside and your productivity drops drastically.
Not so much of a problem now that the weather is cooling off, but boy was it a pain for a good portion of the year. -
I have a brand new T700 and it's been a pain since I got it sometimes the light flashes and then beeps a few secs later it beeps sometimes it does nothing but dies before I can even get to it with me being in the seat even or it does 1 and not the other and u must do both in my truck to keep it running its a hassle sometimes specially if I'm trying to sleep it fights me and fights me and takes 20min
