I have been too numerous shippers that want your reefer trailer to run while the doors are open and at the dock. Do they not understand the reefer needs the door shut to properly cool the trailer? I think the shippers should be more aware of the parameters surrounding the reefer trailers before they tell you what to do. What are the long term affects of burning your reefer with the doors open? Do you guys reject loads like this?
Frustrating, shippers insist on opening doors and sit at dock.

Some trailers have switches that shut unit off when doors are opened. Use to turn loads like that down. Needless wear and tearFlat Earth Trucker, 77fib77 and TruckernFl Thank this. -
Most cold storage places do that. Won't hurt the product at all.
As a company driver, no big deal. Owner-operators can refuse any load they want to.Flat Earth Trucker, Wargames, WildTiger1990 and 2 others Thank this. -
Some shippers probably want assurance unit works before loading. Lots of scam artists out there. But yeah extremely hard on the refrigeration unit
Flat Earth Trucker and TruckernFl Thank this. -
A lot of reefer customers now have it where they open the doors from inside the building.
bzinger Thanks this. -
How else are they supposed to load it?
I've been to some places, don't have you open and back all the way in until they're ready.
bzinger and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
Kinda need the doors open to load. That’s not the main reason. They use it to help cool the place down. Gets a little warm, go stand at the back of the screaming reefer unit. Nice and cool.

Non Refrigerated Warehouse Shipper/Receiver or Refrigerated Warehouse?

They do this because of food safety requirements at refrigerated warehouses, it isn’t hard in the reefer unit on the trailer, it just costs fuel to run it.

How is running the reefer an extra hour or three going to hurt it ?
and I agree, they Probabaly want to k ow it works before they load it
and take it from a guy who has Unloaded a few dry vans in August in south alabama
It gets #### hot really quick in a trailer in the summer sun ,
