how do you figure you will be there a day earlier? if you'r in TX it's the same miles wether you dh or run loaded. in fact I would say I can make much beter time empty so I'd be there before you

I can't answer this, but I do have some thoughts on this.

Trucks are designed, engineered and built to haul freight. 80k lbs to be exact is the industry standard. They build specialized equipment for heavier or off road applications.

Your truck running empty 100% of the time to prove this point in my opinion is really not worth the effort. Bobtail down the roughest road you can think of at 45mph and you will shake and break things loose. Hook an empty trailer to that same bobtail do the same speed and those same items don't shake and break loose add weight in the trailer and it rides even better.

Yes in the short term running empty is cost effective, but what would the long term effects really be? Nobody knows, because nobody does it.

    Anyway, just my thoughts.

I'm really starting to understand why you chose your name!

Actually this would be a great thing to figure out. WHy you ask? Cause then we would all have a much better idea of what deadheading actually costs.

Just cause a truck is designed to haul 80k doesn't mean it has to, we all know that. Your reference to running empty versus loaded on a bumpy road don't make much sense. You seem to forget that road is still rough loaded or empty. The only difference is the weight holding you down, but your truck is still taking a beating, you don't feel it as bad. I understand what your say but it really has no point, unless you are just wanting to talk about rattles.

The point I'm making is that none of us really know the cost to run a truck empty miles. When you figure your money per mile up its figured for all miles, majority being loaded.

Personally myself, I'll go past a cheaper MPM load to get a better paying MPM load, just cause I know it costs a lot more to run loaded than empty.

For the hypothetical load, would grab the one out of TN. Oh & you can bet the broker with the TX load will knock off another $50 the following week for the same load.

Someone mentioned how much brokers make, like $26 for an example. Some agents working for a large company may only be scoring $26 for a particular load, but the brokerage itself is making more. Rarely are they going to give something away & don't blame them. However some have a standard of taking 40% or more of gross. Somehow I always remember hearing that brokers were only suppose to keep 10 to a max of 25%.

Not wanting the gov't involved for mandates on brokerages, but maybe an hour spent in a ethics course during their I wanna be a broker school would be a good thing. ;)
