Sorry been on the road and hadn't check in.
The problem isn't the large seal around the fuel tank neck.
The leak comes up thru the center vent of the cap then runs down over the tank.
The tank has its own vent on top of the tank so the cap vent is not needed.
So the fix is go to the auto parts store any buy two rubber expandable frost plugs.
Remove the chain from the cap and install the frost plug in the center of the cap and then reattach the chain and your done.
My truck has 850,000 miles on it so it's had a fuel nozzle in it a time or too but after this mod 0 leakage.
I did this about a year ago and I couldn't be happier

I'm sure these would cure the problem also as there is no vent in the center of these caps to leak either.

Sorry, just saw your secondary post regarding the rubber expandable frost plugs, thanks for the tip. I'll try it tomorrow.

    This should work for you.
My tanks are still dry and shiney with no fuel residue.
Let us know how it works.

In another post I saw a member say to make sure the tank is vented. How would I do that or is it necessary for the tank to be vented being we are covering the vent on the cap.

IMG_2328.JPG IMG_2329.JPG Most tanks have a dedicated vent already installed so the cap vent is not needed at all.
Here are some pics of my 07 freightliner to help you understand.
Notice the dedicated vent fitting at the top of the tank.
Also notice how there is no fuel residue around the cap after you perform this modification.

    Just saying....
A couple of cheap frost plugs does the same thing.
It’s been almost a couple of years now and my tanks are still dry and shiny.

Can you explain where and how you did it? Bought some at advanced auto but they didn’t fit. Thanks in advance
