Any suggestions on which fuel cards are good to use as an owner operator? Looking to get one of my own to use. Currently leased to a company that was recently bought out and using their fuel card. They are charging us owner operators .10/cents a gallon to use it, which I think is outrageous. I typically burn about 400 gallon a week, therefore being charged $40.00/week to use their card. Other than the fuel card, the company is great to drive for. Any suggestions on cards?

well you will need to figure out how much a discount they get
maybe your still better off with the $.10 charge
pump price means nothing -
NASTC is highly recommended by many owner-operators.
-
I agree and use one too! Very satisfied with the NASTC Fleet One fuel card.
-
Do you have to have more than one truck in the account with NASTC to qualified for fuel discount price?
-
No. I have only 1 truck. I have seen as much as a $0.41/gallon discount less than the posted cash price at some TA/Petros. It does vary a lot because you are getting it for wholesale cost plus $0.05/gallon.CellNet Thanks this.

I use NASTC also.

Can you use the nastc at the same time you use the fuel vendors card? Like a loves card for points you swipe and get 5 cents off the posted price.
I spoke with a rep from nastc about the fleet 1fuel card. I like that there is more than one option. I believe I will do the one where you get an invoice every morning about what you did the previous day and at the end of the week it automatically takes the money out of the bank account account you linked.
The other option is it automatically takes it out at at the pump like a debit card.
What have you fellas been seeing as far as discounts? -
I averaged 3.58 per gallon last year using NASTC. I buy 90-95% of my fuel from TA or Petro but with NASTC you get a book of approved stops. Many are mom and pops that join their program. Though you usually don't get as good of prices at those. And I also get points and showers on my Ultra 1 card through TA and Petro. It's not a lot but it all adds up.

The NASTC card program is good, although now if you have only 1 truck they require you to attend a seminar before getting in on the program. It given once a month in Nashville at NASTC headquarters, or at the truck shows, Dallas and Louisville.
