Yep I was talking about fuel heaters. Preheater's are good for such a thing.

Why? If it's 0* outside I still see atleast 50* fuel temps

Using heat pad from artic fox (80w 6.7 amp part# eh2874) on my fuel filter using a pure power filter on primary filter on 6nz. Also running hotline fuel line and tank heaters. IMG_20160115_231815_523.jpg

looks like the most sure way is to have in-tank heaters and either a filter or in-line heater, maybe both. I suspect that if the filter has a heater and a coolant heater for the tanks, that should take care of any extreme temps. I should have spec'd Artic Fox heaters, but I can be a dumb-### at times.

One thing that can be a plus when using the Arctic Fox in tank heaters that operate on coolant, if one has a diesel fired Webasto or Espar engine coolant heater, it can be plumbed into the tank heaters also and not only warm the engine but the fuel as well. There are all kinds of ways to skin this cat.

I have an APU, it is plumbed into the engine coolant but I don't know if it would circulate enough heat through a fuel tank coolant heater to warm the fuel enough to make a difference with the truck's engine off. It might, but will it circulate enough coolant through the tanks to be effective? That brings up the issue of the fuel filter for the APU freezing up and the APU then not running. So far the APU has never had that issue so it might be nothing to worry about. As long as the APU runs, the espar heater keeps the cab warm, and the batteries will be charged for starting the engine. I don't want to overthink things. Maybe just adding a filter heater and tank heaters will be all that is needed.

It does have enough I use a carrier apu I use choke cables with shut off valves to turn on or off fuel tank heaters that way I can shut them off when warmer out. What I did on my is it passes thru tank heaters first then to trk engine and can generally get water temps on trk engine in 70 degree range in -0 temps I do load apu by turning on inside temp to put a load on it. If you want to get real serious you could run some pipe insulation around your hoses to hold in more heat. Artic fox also makes an in fuel heater called linehualer that you can plug in to 110 volt or use coolant too that would be another option. Artic fox is based out of Delano Mn they have a website. Take a look there give you lots of different options.
