If you use that method (tapping the compartment) only, it's a matter of time before you wind up loading on top of retain and scullying/domeing out @ the rack. Do your trucks have sight glasses where you can watch the flow of product? I'm not saying tapping is bad but I bet you can't tell the difference between empty and fifty gallons. I use tapping, getting a loud "Ping" echo in the compartment from dropping the hose, paying attention to how long that compartment has been open (as a GENERAL rule, 4000=10 min./2000=6/1000=3) but I would say the order I rely on most would be the timing, then listening for the compartment to start sucking air, then watching the sight glass drain, then getting a good "Ping", then tapping. I also watch for any "Splash" against the betts valve when I close it. HTH

You go through all that, why don't you just get up and look? I'll challenge anybody if your tapping or timing to tell me when there's only 50 gallons in the tank. Some of our compartments do not even trip the retain light at 50 gallons. You can watch the light and when it goes out you've got anywhere between 60 to 75 gallons left in our bigger compartments. I know because we had a dealer that was claiming he was getting shorted because the drivers were not unloading completely. The company came in and spied on the drivers and stuck the tank when they came back and then fired them. After that the company policy was to make sure you had no product left in the tank and if you did you'd have to stick the tank and adjust the bill.

If you got caught on top of a trailer at a branded station around here they would request that you don't do any more of there work.(and it's not a request ). They have all kinds of rules!
SavageSam Thanks this. -
I wouldn't rely on the lights. Our company discourages us from climbing on the trucks. @ K.M. you can get into trouble if they see you up there. It only adds one to two minutes to my drops to do all of my checks.

What he said.

I've never stuck it to verify. But I'd guess on a 4K tub, about the time it sucks that first bit of air, there is somewhere between 50-100 gallons left.

Maybe. Not likely.

Call them and ask them what is the criteria for applying and what experience they require. You never know and don't assume anything. They may well go for a rookie
so good luck. You should enjoy the experience. Just be aware that it's probably something you haven't experienced yet. It requires intense consentration and there is much to learn. A small mistake on your part can escalate into something major, but don't let that discourage you !! -
Must not be working for Schneider, LOL! They will have you up top 6 times a day in 12 hours.
