Well, I flushed my radiator today and while it was running getting up to temp I noticed a stream of bubbles in my fuel filter bowl. Gonna change the housing tomorrow (I have a spare one lying around) to see if it clears up. I'm hoping this is the cause of the injector codes I've been getting.

I hope I can cure this problem easily and be a simple fix. I've been having trouble for a few weeks but just noticed the air yesterday at high idle. Maybe it gets worse as the demand for fuel goes up

Air in the fuel is very hard on the injectors, will cause codes in the ecm, and starting problems.
Look at all the fittings, especially at the tee's and any shut off lines.
I fought that problem on my last volvo, until we replaced all the lines. Was told the lines was sucking in air through the lines from age. My Volvo used the plastic line which is the same as air brake line.
After replacing these, couldn't beleive how smooth the engine ran. Shortly after had an injector go out.

    nofilter Thanks this.

I got this problems with air in the bowl , but was caused by the fuel line fittings going in and out of the water separator; are stupid designed, not tight, cheap plastic clamps; I replaced with brass fittings and problem solved. I also got "check fuel filter" msg, after PM/ oil change, the technicians didn't install the rubber seals from the bottom and top properly; This water separator can cause problems, filling up quick in cold weather or bad fuel; I keep one spare and a circular wrench in my truck all the time, and replace it myself if needed, many drivers bypass it.

Update....changed fuel filter base today and no more bubbles! Then I went ahead and changed egr gaskets and clamps because they had been leaking. Sealed that up good, no more exhaust in the can now. I think I'm getting close to having it all in good working order! Fingers crossed anyway lol

BTW, check fuel tank equalizer too, it was a problem with version-II FH cabovers in Lugansk in 2006-2007 (air in fuel). I sugest it was global problem becouse volvo sent us replacement parts with MADE IN BRAZIL label))) LOL
