Just ask anyone over 45 what happened when the price of fuel was regulated in the 70's.. Once again another person that cuts down an Idea but offers nothing with regards to "other options"
Meeting together to set a price creates no competition That is considered a monopoly and is currently illegal Except for certain circumstances Utilities being a big one In that case the government controls profit and mark ups, which is needed due to the specialized infrastructure
We are talking about other options But wanting government control is not a great option We live in a free economy Yes fuel prices suck but this is how changes are made The people make the choice not to accept it and go from there Allowing our government to control through rules, regulations and laws will only hurt us later We cant have it both ways
Oh I agree. Which is why I am against all the comments people are making about fixing fuel prices. What I am talking about is no different than MINIMUM wage... a price that can not be legally undercut. a price that all parties involved agree to never go below. I'll say it again: repair shops set a shop- labor rate within 10% of each other so as not to drive each other out of business with bidding wars. Please do not take my word for it. Call around to your local auto/motorcycle repair shops and ask what their labor rate is. In Jacksonville, FL all legal motorcycle shops are between $85-$95/labor hour. It is not illegal because it is LABOR not goods we are speaking of. Fixing the price of goods is illegal. Setting a fare labor standard is not. If it were then unions would be out of business.
You should include something about freight rates being down to early nineties levels when fuel in that time period was $.80 to $.90gllon vs the $4 gallon we are looking at now
Thats the problem, shipping rates are not labor so to speak But I understand your reasoning I am against minimum wage, I feel the free market will adjust itself. If illegal workers are not flooded into the economy Side note if hillary gets her way the available jobs will decrease with a 10.00 min wage
If thats what it takes why not? You won't see a dump hauling for $x.XX cpm. Why should anyone else? The only problem with that is incentive to do better. Hourly wage plus delivery bonus? Maybe?
And God forbid you actually get paid more than you could make at MickyD. or for the actual hours you work.
