I am a company driver but have been looking to get my own truck someday. I have a stupid question about Fuel surcharges. Some companies say the pay 100% fuel surcharge on thier loadboards or websites. How does this exactly work, do they pay for the fuel you use to make that load or is it based on 6.0 miles per gallon or better. A little bit confused on how this works. Thanks and sorry for the stupid question.

some companies have their own formula for FSC, other co. factor in a FSC for that particular trip, if their is one.

There is a formula for fuel surcharge, and I don't remember what it is right now. It's not based on mpg though. You buy the fuel, but the FSC is added to your base rate for a load.
I know there will be some others in that will be able to clarify this a bit better for you! -
If you are thinking the company pays for the fuel you use (thats the way I read your question) your wishful wanting. NO company pays and O/O fuel bill. Its just a percentage based on the US National Average Diesel Fuel Index

If ya ever find one lemme know, I want in lol -
I guess what I am trying to say is that if your looking at a load board say land****s board. A load pays 1100 plus 100% fuel surcharge, does the 1100 already have the surcharge in it or do you have to negotiate that with the broker. So 1100 plus whatever the broker quotes on fuel surchage.

You should get the load pay PLUS the FSC. Our FSC right now is around 65 cpm.blue T Thanks this.

But becareful they say they pay 100% FSC but if the national avrage is 50 cent they might pay 35 so they are getting 15 cent off the top of the FSC...It would be best to keep track of the us national FSC website EVERYWEEK and that gives you some levarge room when dealing with them
blue T Thanks this. -
The $1100 should be separate from the fuel surcharge. SHOULD be. As far as Landstar goes, you are at the mercy of the agent who booked the load.
In reality, brokers who push internet loadboard freight want an all-in flat rate quote. The second "fuel surcharge" leaves your lips, they're hanging up the phone.blue T Thanks this.
