Do you brokers charge your customers a fuel surcharge? Do you pass it on to your brokered trucks? Just curious because I work on percentage and seem to broker quite a bit through the co. I work for because of the current "conditions". So when I have to find my own loads I want to know upfront the rate plus whether it's based on gross including a fuel surcharge or not. I know my pay/commission is not entitled to a percent of the fuel, but if it's figured in the gross then I feel it needs to be disclosed.
I'm not trying to open a "can of worms" here but I am just wondering.

Most all companies charge FSC now. We base ours off the weekly national fuel average. We don't skim it off the top. We work off of a target profit margin. Sometimes we hit it, sometimes we don't. Our end goal is providing our customer good service.

Fuel surcharges only apply to long term contract rates. They are not needed for spot market bids, as your rate for that load should already have the cost of fuel figured in.
