My truck had the valves up at the top of the transmission and it had levers that you could pull to shut them on and off.
They were crazy insane expensive from Freightliner.
So I put ball valves right where the lines come out of the tank on each side for supply and return.
When I change filters I just shut the line off before I take the filter down and everything stays Primed.
When I put the filter back up everything is sealed and I open the line and it's like nothing was ever done.

That’s a better idea than just a Piped T. I might do that myself. The Factory ones have never given Me any problems, but I’ve heard some horror stories. Just had a Mechanic at Freightliner, last month, tell Me to get rid of them. I had bubbles in tanks, may have been injector cups, I’ll soon know, might be that valve sucking air. Truck was stalling out, after washing the engine, barely made it to the Shop, We’re going to have to figure that out after OH,I don’t like to change more than one part at a time.Too easy to get lost in the diagnosis, never knowing what the problem was. Looks like I may have a brand new engine, with a Gremlin somewhere in the system.

Just knocking around a bit. 33118 is a primary on some older Detroits, 2 and 4 strokes. It is about 21 microns. The 33120 was the secondary at about 10 microns. The 100 mesh screen I mentioned is about 149 micros.spsauerland, Dino soar and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I’m reading in my Detroit engine manual to keep the fuel tanks filled to reduce condensation. “Condensation formed in a partially filled tank promotes the growth of microorganisms that can clog fuel filters and restrict fuel flow.” It also mentions to add biocide to prevent microbe growth. Interestingly, it recommends to open the drain at the bottom of the tank every 30k miles to remove water and/or sediment.

I think the sulphur used to keep Algae killed out ,never had it before the introduction of low sulphur fuel then ultra low sulphur fuel
BoxCarKidd and Dino soar Thank this. -
I don't think is the sulphur removed causing the issue, but the fact that ULSD contains more water.
SAR, I glide 47, BoxCarKidd and 2 others Thank this.
