Last night while fueling up, another driver came over and asked me if I could help him with his tank caps. He was driving a pete and the lever flip twist apparently confused him. Then he asked me to help him getting them back on.

So my advice to new drivers would be to find a pete, see if you can figure out how to get the caps off the tanks then back on. If you can, YAY....happy trucking...if you can't, I would seriously consider another line of work.

    Oh that's a bit harsh .

I can rebuild an engine and an automatic transmission and set up differentials , yet I still struggle with changing wiper blades !

I always carried bolt cutters for such situations.

I've never used those fuel caps, I don't know a thing about them,
So after a million safe miles do you think I should give it up and become a cook at McDonalds?

I've never worked in food service, don't know a thing about it, what if someone on the Chef's Forum tells me I'm only qualified to hold a steering wheel?

This scares the sam hill out of me. You got some cretin that's sort of driving a truck and can't figure out how to secure a fuel cap. Oh boy.

Depends, if you can't figure it out then maybe you've just been lucky all those miles. And if you're wondering, I crossed the million mile mark more than a decade ago. Does that mean I'm supertruckmcduff billybigrigger know all be all about trucks.....nope but not being able to figure out how to get your fuel caps off says something about your ability to reason. Back in the day with mechanical engines suicide cruise and pyros a driver had to be able to solve problems and know more than just how to start the truck.
