A truck driver that doesn't know every little thing about the truck is not necessary a bad driver. I knew a driver that had over 25 years safe driving with not even a scratch on a truck. You'd show him a log book and he'd ask "what's that" He knows now but all those years he never was exposed to one. All local gasoline hauling. But he sure could drive that truck. He'd make the diesel sign.

I don't disagree with you one bit. However, when I think back to my early days when I was first exposed to a big truck, I think I was shorter than the tires at the time, I can't imagine one of those men that were my mentors hitting the road without knowing all they needed to know about the truck they were driving.

The problem ain't whether he's a new driver or an old driver....
The problem is common sense ain't to common anymore....

Nah, Micky D will be happy to train ya! And they like to hire the handicapped where possible!:p

It also says something about the pre-trip that you obviously did not do...

Tuck, you could not do any worse than those idiots that are in there now!

Gee, I really feel no guilt whatsoever.

You guys are right, common sense does play a big factor here. What I meant to say most drivers can figure things out even if they do not know how it works even if they've never been exposed to it. Those are the drivers that are out there now and who I see. I guess I'm lucky to be in the gasoline business and deal with a slightly higher caliber driver. That's drivers on an whole. The ones that I have a hard time learning are the same drivers that if you took 100 from the east coast and asked them what a truck and trailer is 50 of them would be convinced they were right when in fact they are wrong. Not all east coast drivers because I've run with the best and they set examples.
