I've seen pneumatic tankers 35 years old refurbished and kept running. How long do refined fuel (ie. gas/diesel) trailers last? Are there regulations that limit their service life?

open, releasing all the fuel. The steel tankers went away in the 1970's so everything is aluminum
alloy now. No reason you could still run a tanker from the 1980's at all, long as it has vapor lines.Oso Thanks this. -
We run one from the 80s. Just gotta keep it in good shape and maintained.
My def trailer is from the 1990. It is alright still. Old milk trailer with a big ### pump on it now and a meter.Oso Thanks this. -
We have a few non spec tankers from the mid 70's we run stuff in.
Biggest thing with the fuel tankers is having all the sensors and vapor recovery system for loading at the newer racks. -
I'll have to check the mfr date, but many of our trailers are OOOLLLDDD! Some still have the split pigtail pins!
They are VERY well maintained. Every year they get a thorough inspection, and every other year they also get pressure tested. Then every 5 years they undergo a complete, very thorough inspection where they replace or repair everything questionable.
I joked that we are using the first tank trailer ever made. -
You mean it was the one used to haul the pitch to Noah for waterproofing the ark?taodnt Thanks this. -
We have propane trailers from the 60's that we still use.
mustang190 and Oso Thank this. -
around here if the tanks will not pass inspection as a petroleum tanker (too costly to upgrade to newer rack specs) but are still watertight they are sold off to liquid fertilizer haulers or dealers.
I know of at least 3 that are 1980 or older and are still in daily use.Oso Thanks this. -
We would have trailers built just for us and they would stay with the company for 10 years and then be sold. Or trucks were also custom built for us and we'd keep them for 5 years before we sold them. That's the way it was until the company sold out and was no longer.
Oso Thanks this. -
ChicagoJohn Thanks this.
