Ive got one ive got to try to get better milage. I had two trucks leave at the same time tuesday with the exact same load 1 truck is a freightliner classic with a 12.7 detroit 430/500 the other is a international 9400i with a n14 370/435. Both were full when they left both have ten speeds and are geared relativly the same the international went 800 miles and put 163 gallons in it. The freightliner went 1100miles on the same amount of fuel. They both had the same loads and ran the exact same route and the international is goverend at 72mph. That puts the international at just under 5mpg and the freightliner at 6.7 are the detroits really that much better on fuel both trucks have been grossing around 75000 the entire trip.

yes, they are. especially the older ones. Late 90's etc.

I was driving a 99 shaker classic with the 430/500 detroit ddecIII and it could pull 7mpg fairly easily even being a classic

You really ned to swap the drivers though and see what happens. A good easy driver can make all the difference. I've found a guy who just runs against the governor all day gets worse mileage too

I was just checking the milage and 800 is right on the n14 and and 1371 on the detroit which is 8.4mpg that seems extremly high and Ive had the international for years and it usually gets 5.5-6.0 the detroit is fresher it has about 100,00 on complete overhaul and the n14 has abot 300,000 on a inframe neither has much blowby. The n14 has a freeflow single exhaust and the classic has straight pipes if this is the case im going to be trading for another detroit. Both motors are 99 models. Oh yea the detroit has a good bit more power and no governor it was running more then 72mph most of the trip it has been all interstate.

you need more data then one trip. Watch it for a month.

    also
DO you give them a real good fuel Bonus if there milage stays high? alot of guys will toss a few gallons of fuel in and pay cash for it every month or so to make sure there MPG stays high enough to get fuel bonuses

Where is the fan clutch kicking in on the n14? I was just at the dealership today because mine is kicking in at 180 and off at 172. They suggest having it reset to 200. The ecm guru wasn't there but will be on Monday so I plan to have a chat with him on his suggestions. I'll let you know what I learn.

200 is right for that cummins. I've been told when I add a fan clutch I want a 205 but i'm not too sure about that. Probably will stay at 200

I want to say it kicks on 205-210 it runs alot hotter then the detroit the detroit never sees 200 but it has 180 thermos in it. I am going to keep watching them the driver in the international is new and no i dont give bonuses. Im going to change the air filter in it and see if that makes a difference and im considering turning the fuel up on it so u dont have to have ur foot in it all the time. I havent had the detroit very long but so far I am really impressed in every way.

Thats what I was expecting to begin with. At 180, bobtail and the AC running it was cycling on more than off.. BTW I fixed my fan clutch. Bad wire to the air solenoid.
