So I’m really on the fence with this one. Gut says don’t do it but the few diesel mechanics I’ve spoke to said to give it a shot because of how cheap they are.. So I found a Chinese engine manufacturer on a website called alibaba that manufactures brand new 100% replicas of all the good old engines. 3406, big cam Cummins, etc. I do have my reservations on the quality and not having any type of warranty, however it would be nice to have a spare engine in the garage incase anything major went down. What do you guys think? Has anyone had experience with these? The vendor assured me that every single part is matching and that it can be worked on exactly the same. I will post a link of one engine I have my eyes on. Let me know what y’all think!
Fun one- Chinese engines?

From what I have learned from dealing with Chinese remanufactured parts the last 20 years is if they can’t remanufacture a water pump for a simple 2.3 liter ford that has been in production for 30 years without it failing after 25 thousand miles what can they build that will last .
Don’t even get me started on the timing belt tensioner with 20 thousand miles on it that left me stranded and cost me a $600 tow.
Than there is the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder that started leaking with in 5000 miles of replacement.
No way no how I would spend money on that.
Buy a good old seasoned block and have it properly magna fluxed and decked and Line bored and build a motor from there.Last edited: Feb 15, 2021

No way!!! If you live in America you can't do this. Not just because it's junk, but pay a little more to buy American.

Things that are chinese-manufactured have tooling problems. Meaning that things are made with inexact tolerances.
I can't imagine how terrible a Chinese block Chinese crankshaft Chinese camshaft Chinese connecting rods Chinese Pistons Chinese rings Chinese liners Chinese heads... That's got to be a colossal hunk of Chinese junk.
When you factor in the time and expense to swap engine and where that Chinese piece of crap is going to blow up and what it's going to cost you to get your truck back to your yard or a garage and put a good engine in, you do way better if you just find a good running used engine and go over it and use it and rebuild it when it's time. -
The OP has alot to learn about life and considering buying a 25-30k cat or cummins engine as a spare but being built by china of all places for a fraction of the cost. This thread might go down as one for the history books of silliness. Oh and the vendor that sells them assures you lmao. What else would he do, not assure you and not sell the junk? lmao
