You won't ever get rich with a single truck operation but, it can make you a good living. I learned how to make a profit the hard way~trial and error. As you and others have posted many times you must know your cost to move that truck. Not everyone can make make this industry work for them but, most can if they learn to use a calculator and learn to say: No its not enough money.

Valid point, but when explaining trucking to people who don't understand it can be difficult to say the least.
When I try to explain it I make sure they understand this isn't a bed of roses. Its not as easy as driving, sleeping, parking it for the weekend and not having to work on it.
He just didn't want you to steal his gravy freight...

The trend to failing I see is.....
People live by their gross income and just flat see a couple good checks and the big
shiney new pickups and bass boats, 4 wheelers, big fancy homes, expensive vacations
start appearing and then the truck breaks down and.......
man i dont know why i dont have
the money to fix this thing -
Oh Man....You don't know how many times I've see that exact scenario play out right in front of my eyes! -
GOOD POST GUYS!
BLACKW900 I ENJOY READING YOUR POSTS! I Wont move for less than $2.00 pr mile, but actually think it should be like $2.25-$2.50 because fuel has just went up. Getting that this time of year with a flat is like pulling teeth! Brokers stick together more than truckers.
i will deadhead if i cant make a proffit! im not out here just too break even or get by! I personally believe i give up alot being out here on the road away from friends and family, my home, plus no retirement cept for what we can save on our own.
I DONT BELIEVE IN "BACKHAULS" should pay the same coming or going miles are miles.
Lets hope in 2011 we can get these rates closer to were they should be or let the brokers go buy themselves some trucks!
merry xmas too all! cept brokers! lol -

I'm in the pro*ess of doing resear*h to get my own, you guys, for the most part are inspirational. I know I'll make it, I grew up in the industry. Again thanks for the positive words, I already know it won't be easy, but at least I'll be the boss.

I have learned thru a couple of good friends on this site.there is money to be made out there, you just dont need a Brandy Dandy shinny new truck! I just bought one ,paid cash,it's a little older but is in very good shape......so my over head starting out, will be general maint, w/ no truck payment...but one pice of advice,m if your are not mechanicly inclined and dont know much about trucks ! thus far i have had alot of tinkering and perfecting thing the way i like them.....but the abov comments are true.....best of luck to you in your adventures
