Hi Rain_Kid,
One possible solution is this:
1) Wait an addition SIX years, (January 2019), while simultaneously working your hardest to acquire the best driving record possible.
I do realize that you would like to start a driving career as soon as possible. You will still have many years of your life to look forward to. You will only be 29 or 30 years of age.
However, both the trucking companies and the Department of Transportation are seriously becoming much more stringent on the individual truck drivers. Also, the Department of Transportation is becoming much more stringent with the trucking companies themselves.
2) Try to both get and keep a job that will sustain you for the next SIX years. This way, you will have a decent employment history, IN ADDITION to trying to both acquire and maintain a CLEAN driving record.
3) One possible option: Go into the military for the next SIX years. You could possibly get some training related to the transportation field ranging from driving to mechanics. This could be a real booster to you getting into professional over the road truck driving.
4) During the next SIX years, try your absolute best to become the absolute healthiest person and as physically fit as possible. This way, you should not have any difficulties in passing any of the physicals or exercise stress tests. Work on upper body strength to be able to lift up as much as 100 lbs. without having to seriously strain at it. Work to stay as slim and trim as possible to avoid "tipping the scales" or not being within body mass index, (BMI), standards.
NOTE:
If you are a social drinker or like to drink any alcoholic beverages, try to TOTALLY give it up altogether. You will NOT have to worry about getting any DUI's or DWI's at all. It can be done.
5) Stay out of trouble in every shape, manner, and form possible. You want to both keep and maintain a CLEAN record. Avoid legal trouble like it was the bubonic plague. Also, TOTALLY CLEAN UP AND MAINTAIN your credit history. For some companies, this can be a serious issue.
The standards for becoming a professional over the road truck driver are becoming as high as if one were going to medical or law school, or going into an important sensitive position with the government. I am NOT trying to sound ridiculous or crazy, however, the standards really are being tightened all the way around.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!
God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!

@mje
I appreciate the thought, I realize you're handing out your personal advice though...
1) "SIX years" seems extremely excessive. like... very.
2) "Try to get a job" The unemployment rate in Sacramento county is to the effect of 12%. The nice young woman who makes me coffee at the starbucks around the corner has a bachelors in communications, that she can do nothing with. North California has not 'no jobs', but more like 'negitive no jobs'. I know what you would say 'move' but, that would require a good chuck of cash, something I have none of..
3) "Millitary"I did go into the millitary. The NAVY, to be precise. I tested 92nd percentile (only a 35 percentile is needed) and was recruited as an EC/FT (missile and ballistics technician) with an eight year contract with my four year degree paid in full and a $5,000 signing bonus. I was shipped to Chicago, Illinois for basic training. Half way through, while doing drills in the snow, my lungs closed up. Apparently I have a rare condition were extreme cold+extreme physical exercise =something of an asthma attack. Not a big deal out here considering I'm not trying to catapult myself over a 15 foot wall in 20 degree weather, big deal in the service. I was shipped home. That was two years ago....
4) "Health" I"m 5' 11" , weight 138 pounds. I run an hour in the mornings and weight train 3 days out of the week and I'm the proud owner of a four pack....... the equivalent of a guy six lmao. My diet, trust that it's on point. On pin-point in fact.
note: "Give up drinking" I enjoy a microbrew way too much! lol I'm wanting to become a trucker, not a nun.
5) "The Law" I've never been in trouble with the law and have no plans to.
I thought I'd write this out to give a better impression of where i'm coming from, trying to get into OTR trucking. I see no reason why I shouldn't be out on the road with the rest of you.
Again thank you! and God bless you too mje -
nctrucker1977 Thanks this.
