I use them all the time. I would love to shop local but when you have a place like vistaprint that whups their axx on price the way they do its really tough to justify buying local when money is so tight.
Do you mind me asking what your new endeavor is? If you don't want to say in public you can PM.
I hope it works out for you. I've been out of the truck since April of 09. I don't miss it! There have been plenty of rough days and nights wondering how I was going to make payments but so far I've survived. Kinda like trucking.
As I get things paid off and use better financial smarts I hope things improve for us.

In the case of the trucking industry, the Americans with Disability Act does not play.
First, if you have a heart attack, you cannot perform your job. If you have been there long enough to qualify for the family leave act, then you can take some time off until your health is better.
In the event stated above, the heart attack disqualifies the current medical card. A new card is then required. A regular doctor who performs the physical, may not wish to certify the driver. The heart doctor may not wish to certify as well.
The company can have their own doctor review the case and make the decision. If the company has more stringent requirements for their drivers and the driver cannot meet these requirements, then the driver is terminated because of medical reasons.
Sound plausible?truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
Sounds very plausible to me. Thanks.

I'll be washing windows, for rich people and businesses. No high rises. Just bought all the equipment i need last week. Just need customers now. Even spent $10 on vistaprint's express shipping 7 day..

im hoping to save up some money from trucking to make it work but i dont think i can,.

Pass out LOTS of cards. Go ahead and order another box of free cards and pay the cheap shipping rate. This way when they run out the others will about be there.
Find out if your local chamber of commerce has after hrs business meetings that all the local businesses are invited to. Not just the chamber members.
Be sure to dress up a little. Depends on the area I'm sure, around here blue jeans and a nice shirt is dressed up for almost every occasion.
And good luck. -
Yes, a guy can be let go for medical reasons: heart attack, needle-dependent diabetes, uncontrolled high blood pressure to name just a few. If you can't get a medical card, you can't drive. It's that simple. What I was saying is I have not heard of anyone being let go simply because of weight, all other things being equal. With bigrigger's experience and safety record, there should be companies ready to headhunt him regardless of his weight.
From my understanding of CSA2010, the big fellers and gals will be asked to participate in a sleep study to determine whether they have sleep apnea. If they don't, great...carry on. If they do, get a CPAP and use it. I have not seen where they will not be allowed to drive at all. But...I could be wrong. It has happened before, it will happen again.
Whether someone of a larger or smaller size is safer or more healthy than anyone else is a matter of individual circumstances. I've seen skinny people with more health problems than most of our king-size brethren and queen-size sisters. I've also seen some of our larger friends unable to walk from the parking lot to the C-store without stopping to catch their breath. But this is just my observation.Big Don Thanks this. -
IMHO, this is only the first step of their insidious plan to get rid of experienced drivers. You plant a false notion that overweight drivers might be unsafe, back it up with some phony statistics, convince the public its true, and it won't take long before the "sheep" will be demanding the lawmakers to outlaw fat truck drivers!
I'm sure that these tactics have never been done before!
Can anyone recall the " weapons of mass destruction" that were never found???
Go ahead keep believing in your government. They only want to take care of you! They know what's best for you! Oh and BTW,
Resistance is futile!!! -
You're right. And there are quite a lot of fat truckers so it's an easy way to get rid of a lot of experienced folks. Using bmi would possibly even disqualify me and im 40lb overweight but have big bones...
-
There is NOTHING in the CSA2010 about BMI!!! It's about enforcing current regs. There are no new regulations. Period. This rumor has to stop.
I'm 6'2" and I weigh 400 pounds. I can hop in and out of the trailer as good as anyone. I'll be ###### if I'm going on the public dole, sit around my house all day and listen to my wife yapping at me. If they tell me I can't drive anymore, I'll get a job! Maybe working in a warehouse unloading trailers so I can get this weight off of me. No one is telling me I can't drive. I pass the physical every time I'm due. I find it hard to believe you were "forced out" by your weight. You want to sit at home and collect a check. That's your business, but be honest. I'm not buying it. -
I can't make excuses, but I really don't eat that much more than the average person. My big problem is lack of exercise. It's hard to get motivated after being strapped to a chair for 10 hours. The dedicated account I'm on has one run where we deliver a trailer full of empty steel drums that the driver has to tailgate. Everyone always finds an excuse to drop that load on the yard rather than deliver it. I always ask if there's one there anytime in the area, I love it. If I'm given a task like that, I'll do what it takes to get it done. But i can't seem to get motivated to do stuff on my own when there's no pay involved. Also, trucking didn't make me this way, I was overweight when i started 12 years ago. I was a fat kid, skinny in my twenties, 180 pounds, and blimped out in my mid 30's. Now I'm 44. I'm half tempted to quit this job and find one more physical, but good paying jobs are hard to come by these days.Big Don Thanks this.
