I drove a 378 Peterbilt for over 10 years, and I had a Hustler FG27S 4ft antenna on it. It was a great antenna and lasted several years. You definitely need an external SWR meter and jumper cable. Don't trust the internal meter on the radio. Sounds like you have common mode current problems that's possibly causing the swr light to flash while you are talking. I see you have asked this same question on another popular cb forum. They are giving you some sound advice to follow. Good luck.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Do you have the “Nylon” washer on the proper spot of the antenna mount ?
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Yes I have the proper nylon washer even bought all new stuff to rule that out. But a lil bit of accidental good news i dropped the trailer this morning and was showing my friend what's wrong
With the radio. Low n behold it works just fine without a trailerDiesel Dave Thanks this. -
