Galaxy radios

I've got a Galaxy DX 44V for sale for $125. It's been tuned a bit and is in very good condition.

 

What exactly is " tuned a bit " ? , who did what to it, usually all that is required is conversion to 11 meter and maybe turn up modulation and set high and low carrier.

 

If it is relatively unmolested that is a good price for that radio.

 

According to Ray from Galaxy, all of them use a slightly higher gain lower noise transistor in the front end as opposed to a comparable cobra 148.

 

Is Ray still with Galaxy? Hadn't thought of him in awhile. He used to call Russ pretty regular. Russ would put him on hold by handing the phone to me and we would visit.

 

Ray mentioned something about it about 10 years ago in a forum regarding this very topic

 

The 959b has the schottky detector diodes from the factory.

 

That kind of sounds like a bad thing. I definitely don't think it would help the dynamic range of the AGC circuit. Front end overload while in the proximity of a strong signal would probably be a huge problem
