I've noticed that twice you have made this comment. And both times you are the one who's incorrect. As a Ham I can use a unmodded Ranger RCI 2950/2970, Magnum 257, or HR 2510/2600/Lincoln. Those radio are not band because of Hams. But of non-Hams usings them on 11 meters. Go check with the FCC. And yes Exports are still CB's.

A rheostat is the last thing you want to use for a variable carrier. A "pot" or potentiometer is the right thing to use :)

As a ham you can use a modified 10 meter radio/CB/export/import (whatever you want to call them) within an amateur band. You could also use it legally on the CB band and outside it as well (sort of).

P.S. Why do you capitolize ham???

If that's the case, then I stand corrected. I thought, for sure, that even possession of an export radio by a licensed ham operator was illegal. If that's the case, how do you explain these "cb shops" getting busting for just having exports in there inventory, even without being converted? Is it because they don't have a ham license possibly?

It is illegal to sell them or at least SOME of them ...

Also most get busted for selling them all ready converted for CB ....

As a HAM and as long as you don't use one on CB they are legal.

"No! It can not be used Legally by anyone."

Not true. You can build your own gear for ham from junk if you so choose so long as it specs out within regulations. This was the hobby from it's very inception. I don't care if you use channel knobs from dead CB's, toaster parts, and microwave oven components as long as frequency tolerance, input power, and IMD specs fall within the law (in general harmonic suppression must be within guidelines). You can build a 10 meter rig from a Cobra 148 or use a Galaxy 99 assuming you do not run noise toys or effects. Your modes of modulation and type of communications also have specs. In other words the information you transmit is also regulated. However what you build your ham rig from has no importance to the FCC so long as it operates within the law, I don't care if dead roadkill is part of the circuit there is no law saying what your rig must be made out of. This was and still is the beauty of Amateur operation and the sole reason I worked for my Extra. ARRL handbooks full of home built projects have been in print since the days of W1AW and I have to wonder what Hiram Percy Maxim would have thought about this new generation of Hams who thought the only rig you could use was one you bought at a store. Give me a break and quit broadcasting misinformation. Hams are the only people who can legally use any cheap export radio on the market notwithstanding they were aimed at a clandestine CB market. So long as you stay in your ticketed areas and shut off the sound effects of course.

Before you go copy and pasting words concerning the export radios you have read from the FCC this is one area they have no hope of winning against a properly licensed Amateur who is running perfectly within the law insofar as the regulations relate to the signal you transmit. You would not even need your own lawyer the ARRL would defend you if for no other reason than to protect the sale of their handbooks full of home built projects.
