Whats going on guys, I have a quick question for you since I will be starting with Swift in the next couple months.. I was curious if there are any PC gamers out there? Can you get decent Internet connections at truck stops or terminals? I wouldn't imagine most mmos or fps run very well on mobile wifi. Personally I play a lot of WoW and a few fps, I know I have plenty of laptop to handle it, just wondering if I will be able to find the Internet connection to play. Thank you in advance and I appreciate all the info in this forum that has talked me into becoming a truck driver.

PC games maybe not really sure I can tell you this my Xbox has lagged everytime I tried to play some Call of Duty but it may just be the wifi connection in the Xbox a Laptop might get a better connection

I stopped getting to garbage wifi Gotta buy it for everytruck stop you cant count on same truck stop daily if you can even find one so nights

If you wanna be connected a lot u will need to buy it for

    Road Rangers
    Pilots/Flying J
    Petrol/TA
    AMC Best
Among others all at $150 a year and the best part all by the same scaming ### company Wondering Wifi but they make u pay at all the different truck stops but if u got issues with wifi you always call them at any truck stop your at

Better park near building and hope the system is working and the boost is turned up I swear the month I had it to try it was down at most of the truck stops or I as up close but signal was so weak it wouldnt do anything

Its truely garbage just a warning try it out for a month its $20

Really you just dont have much time unless ur on a 34 anyways u run 11 hr day all u wanna do is eat then sleep then get up and do it all over again

Thanks for responding man.. I kinda figured that's the way it would be.. I'm thinking I'll use Verizon mobile wifi from my phone or their little usb, things for regular Internet from the truck. And yeah I feel ya on the 11hr days thing I have been working 12hr shifts in a tow truck for about 8 years now, before that I ran on call 24/7 for a couple years. But I was younger and fresh out of the military. I'm hoping all my experience in a flat bed tow truck will make me a natural in a real truck lol. I want to get into flat bedding and eventually heavy haul or maybe logging if I move my family up north. So Fontucky (fontana) will be my home terminal. Any idea who I should be working to get friendly with down there to set myself up when I do get the ball rolling and go solo? I'm gonna bet just like tow company dispatchers.. DMs require a little bit of ### kissing before you start seeing the good loads. Anyways thanks again for the info, I have to go change a tire on the side of the freeway (no shoulder of course) wish me luck lol

depends on the game, and how close to the building you are/time of day. of course, in the evenings it goes waaay slower. some truck stops have repeaters (or whatever) in the parking lots so you can still get a good signal out back. when i first started trucking was when star wars tor came out, even on my verizon wifi i just couldnt do it it lagged soo much, but guild wars 2 has no problem at all, guess its how the game is made. I haven't tried wow in a few years so I never played it on the road i just tend to stick to the free or pay for item types since I dont know where I'll be each night and how my connection is going to be. Personally i just go to pilot/flying J's, or thats my goal for each night. i use the points, since thats where we fuel, to get my internet each month. if I stop somewhere else, i just use my personal wifi. I also have verizon, when I first got on the road a little over a year ago, verizon only had up to 10g of data you could get, now they are up to 50. of course I wouldnt want that much, and have to pay for all of that lol but now they have way more options than they used to. and of course having a gaming laptop helps ^.^ love my asus republic of gamers

Well like others here i use my personal phone for my wifi, it is a t-moblie phone but i have the plan through walmart, I play final fantasy 11 most of the time though. My phone does fine when i have 3G or 4G. What scarface said is right though even if you find a good truck stop with good internet it don't mean it will good tomorrow or even the next morning, partly because the more drivers who log onto it the slower it gets.

Yea you can def game OTR. Just use your phone to tether the wifi to your laptop. You can also donwload apps that will enable your phone to tether without notifying your carrier and having to pay extra. Should be ffine with most games.

I think it depends on the company/FM and your lifestyle (ie: how much sleep you need to function fully).

What's Sleep? Yes you can game OTR some truck wifi locations are better then others get a signal finder and map out where to park in your free time.No matter the cost of the wifi it can be written off at the end of the year on your taxes. Much better to get a phone plan with data and tethering though. The problem with truckstop wifi is not that its bad it's just being used by alot of people. There are ton's of gamers otr go into a swift terminal and look around you will find people playing.
