Hey, you guys finally showed up! CC should get a kick out of this one.
So I've had a 465t since 09 and I'm just brimming with suggestions. Brimming. It has the lifetime maps and all that on it so everything is up to date.
You guys really need someone to go in and check where you have those restriction flags set. It's like someone took a big handful of them and just flung them at the map to land randomly everywhere. And one flag isn't nearly enough. No, there has to be at least 10 flags set every 50 feet on the road just to make sure that the full screen warning that covers the entire map and makes the unit completely worthless while you're trying to figure out which way to go keeps popping right back up no matter how many times you try to dismiss it. I love that. The unit will go nuts dinging and throwing up warnings until it crashes itself in a mad conniption fit.
There are flags set on 210 east from 435 in KC that insist that all trucks over 53 feet are banned. They aren't and never have been. There are flags on I-70 in Columbus, OH banning trucks from the interstate inside the 270 loop. There's even a flag on the ramp going from 270 to 71 north. There are flags all over the place that ban truck traffic in a 50 foot section of road and only on one side.
Needless to say, this screws the routing up royally at random points all over the country. Please have someone check into them and/or give us a way to report bad flags so you guys can correct them. And believe me, we'll hunt down every last one of them.
I dunno if it's just my unit or a known bug but when I hit the power switch, it goes to sleep, and when I wake it back up, the audio doesn't work until I force a reboot. The volume also changes at random no matter where I set it and most of the time the various warnings don't play any audio file anymore or don't show up at all. That sucks because the curve warnings and such were actually pretty cool.
The NTTS directory is, well, a joke. I know that's a separate company but these guys have been seriously slacking since day one. It's not just a few stops that aren't in the database, that's to be expected, it's fully half of them. For example, there's an old truck stop in houston that shows up on the NTTS. Not only does the unit route you off the highway and 3 miles around through the neighborhood to get to it (it's right next to the highway), but there are no less than 5 other truck stops at the exit that it tells you to get off at that aren't in the directory at all. Five out of 6 aren't in there. That's how bad it is. And they aren't new stops. I'd guess at least two of them have been there for 20+ years.
Another thing with the NTTS, and this is something I've wanted to tell you guys since I bought the unit, The order is all wrong. What's the number one thing that a truck will always be looking for? Fuel. So why is it that the truck stop category is clear down near the bottom of page 3? Then rest areas would probably be next. Bottom of page 4? Please move those to the top and order the rest in a manner that makes sense. I do not need pallets and I certainly don't care to find a locksmith. There's no reason to have them higher on the list.
A place to report errors and such would be nice. I'll come up with more later.Bill104, Rustynutt and Little Eddy Thank this. -
When searching for a town or an address, I really don't need to see the addresses from the other side of the planet 8000 miles away. it just gums up the works and takes up drive space on the unit.
Something about the update process with the NTTS directory is screwy. It won't update directly because it says there isn't room on the drive so I have to download it and overwrite the old one. It's supposed to do this on update but for some reason it tries to add the files instead of overwriting.
On a multistop trip it will at some point route one of the stops that you've already passed through to one of the Garmin headquarters locations. This can result in it thinking that you've traveled 12 thousand miles to Asia and back and it messes with the unit. I dunno why it does that and I've tried to remove those locations from favorites, but they're added back in every time it updates. It also likes to occasionally route through some part of Africa.
Every time it updates, it partially translates the entire history of where I've been into Korean. They still work, if you can read them, but it's weird.
It also adds every point that you travel to by clicking on the map to the favorites with a number assigned. Trust me, if I want to save a place to the favorites list, I'll save it myself. All that adding all these numbered points to the list does is make me have to go in and delete them all every once in a while. I don't really like having to go in and manually delete 40 or so unnamed random points out of the list just so I can use it without scrolling through them all. -
Hey kajidono
Man it sounds like you have some kind of virus on your computer or something.
Sure sounds like you have corrupted files causing problems.
I have the 560LT, I know it is a newer unit but I sure don't have the problems you are describing.
I do have to agree with the NTTS list. Also having a "dealer" listing would be good.
Sometimes you have to use the dealer for warranty work -
pedigree, if you get the lifetime map update you wont have to "spend" money every year. it 89.99 once and your done and you get the updates free for the life of the unit.
garmin... you guys need to add more space for more POI's. 1000 personal inputs is not enuf for some of us that use the item. Ive got the 465t as well but really need about 2500 or even 5000 POI for places i go but cant save knowing ill be going there again sometime but cant tell it to go becuz of the limited space. you get what im saying. also a needed feature is a voice activated address location feature. verbally telling it to find an address or t/s or hotel and things like that would be nice to add. especially since the industry is going all crazy with the whole distracted driving issue and all the nonsense their putting on us to "make" it safer out here, which its not becuz no one is following the law even tho they know its in place... but i wont go further on that.
also would be nice is not charging so much to get a new unit. some of us dont get that kind of money to spend on such a high priced unit when were trying to pay bills and feed the family or such. i know the price goes down after 6mon or a year but still to straight up charge 500 for a unit that cost you guys to mass produce for say 1/4 that much is a bit high handed. granted i would like to upgrade to the new Devi 560 but cant afford it now.
just my 2c. otherwise keep the map updates coming and i can give you some input on some areas that need changing as it turns up along the way... -

A price drop would be nice.... If a regular Garmin can show every goat path that can accommodate foot traffic for under 200 bucks, a truckers unit should for the same amount of money, don't'cha think?
I like the product, and we use it in the Fire Services as well... But I think that EVERY manufacturer grabs a premium from this industry, and it's on the backs (and wallets) of drivers that are already poorly paid for their work.
Just my opinion...Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
kajidono Thanks this.

I completely understand your concern about cost, but there are a lot of different factors that go into pricing. I can't disclose details on the costs of our products, but there are a lot of reasons why the products cost more.
