Just curios to see if anyone knows... Most Classics out there have batter box just under the door and tanks behind it. There is very few where the tanks start right under the door (have step attached to them) and then the batter box is behind the tanks. Any reason why those few would have the tanks up front?

My truck didn't come with Gas Tanks.

I think I need to call Freightliner. -
There's only a couple reasons to spec the fuel tanks under the doors. Number one and most common deals with weight the farther forward the tanks the more fuel weight you pack on the steers. Number two is frame space. Some trucks just don't have room to put a battery box and then the tanks due to wheelbase restrictions. The last I can think of is KW specific with an aero cab sleeper and side mounted stacks, the way the exhaust runs on these trucks there isn't room to come over the tanks and under the cab so they have to move the tanks back and create a space between those and the battery box to run the exhaust out. The most common tho is fuel weight transfer.

My favorite way to spec either a KW or Pete is with battery box under the drivers door and a single big fuel tank under the passenger door that goes as far back as how the rest of the truck is spec'ed is allowed. I'd rather climb up and down a battery box all day than up a fuel tank. Also all of the places I get fuel in town none of them are set up for semi's with a remote island, so that means snaking a diesel nozzle and hose through your cab. If I was out on the highway running a flatbed or something then sure two 150's out back would be just fine.
I've got a 120 gallon on my Lowboy Truck under the passenger door, battery box under the drivers door.
Have twin tanks under both doors on my Dump Truck. I've got to move the hydraulic tank to be able to get more than a 75 gallon tank to fit under my passenger door, which I would like about a 100-120 gallon tank there and get a battery box step, and move the hydro tank to where my battery box was. I can take some pictures tomorrow of what my setups are.Oxbow Thanks this.
