I think part of the problem nowadays there are too many who are black, gay etc who play the worst of their stereotype, the "homeboy" black, the "flaming" gay and so on. I really don't care what anybody gay/straight, black/white etc as they don't try to push their viewpoint/lifestyle on me and I'll not push mine on you(zen/libertarian/anarchist depending on my mood). :biggrin_255: One more thought, whether you believe in the bible or not Matt. 7:2-5 is good advise.

I agree with rex on this one. No way is a gay man getting in my truck. Look all of you say that gay's aren't like that and that they are not attracted to straight men. Then how the hell are they gay, do gay men look different than me? Isn't he attracted to men? Well, I'm a man and I wouldn't feel comfortable around him. I will not believe that gay men aren't attracted to or ask out straight men. So I know I'm a horrible person, but I really don't care. I'm with you REX.

One other thing. Why even ask that question? Doesn't he already know the answer, if you don't want to be discriminated against then keep your mouth shut. If I was a trainer and I just thought a man was gay I would do nothing about it. It's when you broadcast to the world that you are gay, then I would have a problem. Obviously if you told me your were you would want to make an issue out of it. That's when I would have a problem with it.

Just a question - your 33 and came on a trucking site, saying your gay and where you'll be working after school, did you really want an answer or are you just being funny? (or thought you were being funny) I know a couple of guys who are gay, but they don't broadcast it. They're really great guys, but like I said, they know they are, and I know they are, but I don't have to deal with their lifestyle. What they do behind close doors is no business of mine. It seems to me if your 33, you've lived your lifestyle long enough, you knew what kind of rise you were going to get here. If your new at this "lifestyle", then maybe your question is liget, just be careful - your not going to want to come face-to-face with some, no, with a majority of the truckers out there and broadcast your lifestyle. Hopefully, if you truly are looking for an answer and are really worried about it, you should reread some of the answers here and keep your choices to yourself. I wish you the best of luck in your driving career.

I would have to agree with Gas, Danc and Rex...
I am wondering why he would bring "his" sexuality into the mix? I don't go to work to get laid, nor do I spend any time obsessed with my "other" brain.
I suppose it isn't any different than the "cowboys" who think they are "doG's Guift to wemen"

No he didn't ask it respectfully !! Do you know of ANY woman that has ever called a company and told the recruiter, "By the way, I prefer having sex with men, can I have a male trainer, not a female?" No you don't! Many recruiters will ask a potential student if they prefer a male of female trainer. Many trainers are allowed the same choices.

No one questions a female about her gender...Do not confuse gender with sexual preference aka sexuality.

Women and men training together ARE NOT the same. MOST good companies require a no-harassment clause to be signed prior to putting a male/female combo on a truck. Even though that clause isn't signed for male/male combo, it remains federal law.

Again... I DO NOT care if they do farm animals. But there is no where on a job application to provide that information.. WHY? Because it is irrelevant to the job requirements.

If a man/woman were to continuously bring up his/her sexuality in "mixed" company day in and day out, in the work place or public. He/She would be terminated/charged for sexual harassment. Unless that man/woman is gay, then he/she is a protected minority.

And you really don't want sexuality brought up in this forum/thread. Cuz I can make our little PC people show their true colors, and embarrass a bunch of people.

That is a difficult situation...on one hand this should not even come up, period...on the other hand, if the trainer is an open person and he starts changing in the bunk and dropping his drawers to change undies he might not appreciate finding out LATER that his trainee was, indeed, gay. If it comes out later from someone else in his (the trainer's) company and they give him a hard time about it, it could cause major problems. (Remember the guy that killed the guy that brought him on to the Jerry Springer show and said he had a crush on him, he was so embarrassed that he couldn't take the teasing at home...) Personally, I think he SHOULD let it be known before he leaves out with a trainer so those issues would never come up. Most likely, the trainer will say I don't care as long as you aren't tugging on my peter it doesn't matter to me, etc. Of course, the gay trainee IS protected by the law and can not be discriminated against so they would HAVE to find someone who could take him out and not give him a hard time. Not an easy situation either way.

    Excellent points.

I don't/didn't have trouble with gay students. But, I just don't want to talk about it to them. It's not my cup of tea.

I have several openly gay friends. We have NEVER discussed it in all the years I've known them.

I HATE Football/Basketball/Baseball/NASCAR. So I don't involve myself with discussions.... Am I guilty of discrimination? Am I a sportaphobic?

However, I will discuss motocross, bowhunting, and truck driver tales till the cows come home :) And may get into a discussion of Golf or Rugby.

    I agree, WiseOne.

I'm amazed at some of the responses here. Simply floored. I have a group of friends who keep telling me I've lived a sheltered life, and I've always disagreed with them. I've experienced plenty. Trust me. But maybe they are right in that I've lived in the same small community all my life... and small, rural communities such as ours were very accepting places in which to grow up. Those who were different -- be it by mental or physical handicap, race, sexuality, religion, and so on -- were not judged by their differences, but on their character... and were just another person in the neighborhood, so to speak. It was a "to each his own" thing -- on both sides of the coin.

I think CaptCaveman has a point. We're allowing ourselves to stereotype people based on what I suspect is a vocal, very public minority. <sigh>

The thing that floors me the most about this thread. The number of responses that want the outspoken viewpoints to change/silence their opinions by calling them "phobs".

aka Labeling a segment of the population who doesn't conform to your belief system.

But think it's perfectly alright for someone to speak about something that others find offensive. God forbid we label them.

If you allow/believe in free speech and thought. You must accept the negative that comes with it. Even if you disagree with it.

Occasionally, I poke a stick into the "political" forum of this board. But only to provoke a different train of thought.

If a different opinion is never allowed to surface. Then we all fail in our duties as Americans to preserve what this country was founded on.
