Gay trainers/trainees.

I think what a mess lol. Looking at all the different areas that may be effected. I'm a woman and would not take a man out with me OTR. My hubby would not appreciate it at all. With all the gay stuff going on, it may be worth asking how the wife of the trainer feels about it too? She may be totally insecure and this could damage their marriage. We have a world full of different personalities out there and for the most part people are insecure. On one hand it would be good to not go into your sexual preference, on the other deceit in this area could backfire too. Honesty would be the best way to go. Everything is out in the open and could keep you safe from something happening later. I would be furious to find out my other driver was a lesbian after the fact. Being in a truck together is very close quarters and not a place for deceit.

I am surprised by all the assumptions on this thread. I, for one, would be perfectly comfortable with a trainer who is gay. First, I'm pretty secure in my own masculinity and heterosexuality, second, nobody can (and very, very few wil try to) Impose themselves on someone else (especially me, because I'm big) and third, I know nobody is going to be attracted to me. I'm one ugly SOB!

Wiseone, I must respectfully disagree with you here on a point of law. While the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission (USEOC) does prohibit discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, it makes absolutely no mention of sexual orientation. I think you and others may be confusing this law with another law (not enforced by the EOC) prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation applying only in cases involving FEDERAL employees or applicants for federal employment. Bigots who are also employers must know the law! LOL

Some trucking companies will put you through school without needing a trainer and you can find that info on this board.

Tomhorn, plus he'll probaly be well dressed and can cook gourmet meals and you know he'll have a nicely decrorated truck. Can't get any better then that. Maybe I request a gay trainer.
ATTENTION: Before people start yelling at me as a gay basher, I'm just joking here, perosonally it won't matter to me, I have gay friends and they know I'm not and keep it that way. As far as a trainer goes I just want them to train properly and keep their sexual oreintation to themselves. -
It is that "who cares what other's think" mentality that has brought this country to where it is today. It is all about "me" and who cares what YOU think.
This type of inherent narcissism has lead to all types of bizarre, if not self-destructive, anti-social and even criminal behavior. If everyone took a few minutes and considered how their behavior affected society as a whole, there would be far less problems (in the world) today.
While I have nothing against homosexuals, (I have several friends and a couple family members that are...) it is ultimately my choice how "close" those associations are. Those that I know well, would tend to be close friends, those who I do not know well, are held at arm's length; so-to-speak.
That is NOT "HOMOPHOBIC". That is a choice I make. -
I did not mean for my advice to be disrespectful as one poster has stated. I believe the workplace is for work. I don't care to hear any sexual stories because I believe they're private. Why would someone right from the start jump up and say I'm gay so I thought you should know?
Simple conversation is expected, but I want my trainer to be more interested in driving than any other subject. I just think person information is none of my business and that includes all other topics as well. -
Exactly the point !! While I may have made statements that led others to think otherwise..it isn't true.
Surely a person can contain themselves for a few weeks, straight, gay, or Bi. Then go solo and announce it to the world if they want. Unless, that person is trying to network friends/potential lovers, there is absolutely no reason to request that they be placed with a gay/lesbian trainer.
A person who is unable to contain their sexual urges (or the need to proclaim their sexuality) for a few weeks, has bigger issues than being labeled gay/lesbian. And no amount of training can help them.
BTW, Thomas Jefferson did not say "We as Americans guarantee you these things." He stated you have the right to persue....there is a difference.
While you may be happy growing corn, your next door neighbor may derive pleasure from burning crops. Can you see the disconnect here?
