it can have a .5 Od of the previous gear was 1:1 it’s still only a single od, technically double over is two different sets of boxes with od but I’ll let it slide as just having two actual gears as od, a 15 over or a 10 over has 9th gear as 1:1....

Been 25 years or so since I shifted a 15. but wasn’t the 15 with high gear up against or forward in high gear called the OD version?.

I'm not trying to be a prick. But have run with a buddy with a 510/1850. My 21 yearold 12.7l will eat his for lunch and leave a tip. His light weight is more than me on 6 axles vs my 5. Loaded i was 20k heavier than him.

Not even a comparison. Have a hunch my mpg was better. Not certain.

Funny you guys are saying RTLO is a double overdrive. My RTLO14613b is a single overdrive. 8th over is .86. 8th dir is direct.

Ok I am or was confused. I some what educated in these. Never see a 9 speed or 10 speed that I'm aware off that is a double overdrive.

They are a direct or single OD based on input vs output.

If you go read Bruce's blog I linked at the top of the OP, that's exactly what he called them. I couldn't believe it.

1 overdrive or 2 overdrive or even 3 over drive gears, OK,
However calling it single, double or triple overdrive is open for confusion and discussion.
Twice as much overdrive is technically double overdrive in theory.

    copy and paste
The 10 speed it’s still considered a double overdrive because of the .73 overdrive gear and because you cannot split the gears with the large gap between 9th and 10th

Thats what he said and can be interpreted in different ways.
    mechanically
    theoretically.
