Getting stuck on the R/R tracks is hard to do because you're daydreaming or just not paying attention. Getting a lowboy stuck is a rookie move and I'll bet the driver only does that once. Sure he should have looked closer but never getting stuck has a lot to do with it. Now waiting for traffic to move while you're stopped on the tracks is just plain stupid and that driver should not be driving.

Shifting while going down a grade gives you more chances to not get it in gear and away you'll go. Makes sure you know what gear to go down and stay in that gear all the way down. If you've never been down a grade before, start slow say maybe where the truck stays at 35mph and go from there. Do not change gears just ride it out and know next time you can go down faster. The trick is having enough braking to come to a complete stop if there's an emergency. A stop that does not take forever to stop. A normal stop. If you heat up the brakes too much the truck will not stop normally and will take extra time and distance. You've always have to be ready for the unexpected so you're not at fault.

Go to Trucker Country website. They have every question for every endorsement. Take all of them until you pass. It's free. Don't use test questions as opportunity to discuss endless. The answer is whatever the answer is. CDL school is where you will learn more. You either pass or fail the test. It's not a seminar. Good luck.

Some railroad grade crossings are very high. Think of a very steep & very short driveway. Once the truck goes over the highpoint & starts down is about when trailer landing gear is on the RR tracks.

Stop analyzing the test questions. If they expect you to say "giraffes swim in the ocean" you answer "giraffes swim in the ocean".

The ones that are real hard to crank are the ones that you have to crank up the farthest to get them up to a safe traveling height. Always.

Consult your doctor for a landing gear erection that lasts longer than 4 hours while taking Viagra.

There are two standing orders I have in my head for rail track.

First. Take her out of whatever gear, stick that into Lowest granny gear possible, stand on the starter button letting the clutch out. Sacrifice the batteries, drain em all. You only have to move forward 60 feet at least. IF you made it or lit the engine off, then find a safe spot and start working on why the stall.

    Second.

If I hear blowing (That is 30 seconds or less, us all less) There are two longs one short and a final long before the engine's first axle touches the crossing you are on. Get out, and run uptrack, towards the train on the engineers side do not stop or run too close to the track. If there is a field or hill or something, use it. Makes you easier to find should you suffer a mM

If you ever hear o o o o o o o o o o shorts eff that truck, everything in it including yourself and GTFO any way you can. And don't think. GTFO and move. Anyone else with you has to do the same, instantly. If he or she sits there bleating... then today is probably the day that person dies in the wreckage. But get out. like NOW. Yesterday.
