Chad H,
A couple things , you may in all probability never get that Joker back into gear....You'll be grinding teeth down to their nubs all the while becoming a menace to yourself and others in an 80,000 lb. battering ram...
Always go down one gear lower than you came up. Controlled & stab the braking and you'll be o.k.

I applied for millis transfer. It seems to be a good place according to a few people on here.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Ya better have some shiftin' "SKILLS TO THE NINES" if and when you'd ever have to do that. I did it ONCE and only ONCE with a tank. Just a downhill with a redlight....and idiot 4wheelers stopping at the yellow. Never again. I didn't tear shix up, but man.. the sweat on my brow, at 40 degrees... and I was in 5th. -

Dangit, we keep distracting the O/P... why am i ALWAYS a part of thread derailment? Yeah, Jim... you are as well, ya know. Our dang Buckeye sense of humor!
O/P... hope you get the gist of what we are all telling you here... your concern over simplicity seems to overwhelm you....and I get that.
a.) Check your landing gear, make sure it's ALL the way up; at least to the level of your tanks or boxes ... starting out, anyway. You'll find your comfort zone. Better to crank too high, then drag, being too low. A good, free workout, in a sense.
b.) IF you were to get stuck on a RxR track...... do as the manual says, or back up safely, if possible. I doubt you'd start out on a lowboy, but then again, many have. Not for the faint at heart; never even done it myself at 50 plus... they're a breed of their own. If you were to get stuck due to following 4w's too close, and the gates come down... you should've watched sooner to the issues in front of you. Leave a football field in front of you, and watch the gates.
If you haul hazmat (and many tanks that even aren't...) you still HAVE TO STOP at RxR's and check both ways, with your 4ways on.. like a schoolbus. YOU CAN DO THIS in a van, or any box. Who's gonna know and complain what you are hauling?? The guys behind ya? Who CARES~!
c.) Don't overthink everything... It's good that you ARE looking out, at what COULD become a future issue... actually good for ya there, man.. .but.... there are SO many other hazards that could become an issue, sooner.
d.) WATCH your SIGNAGE. ie: bridges, truck routes, detours, construction zones, speed limits, and such.
e.) BRIDGES . . .they get a lot of newbies. Either the Weight Limit, or the clearance.
d.) NO TRUCKS routes, marked as such.. Unless your consignee is ON that road, don't even THINK about going there. It may take the cops to happily help you back out... and that's on a good day.
Sorry for the rant, and the hijack.. some of us ole' hands play at your expense..
Apologies.
Better luck next time, for sure, man.
Many of us ARE really here for you.. i've actually learned a TON from the guys on here. Even with all my "years" ... you never really stop learning.
The day I do, is the day I hang up the keys!!
Kudos; you'll get this if you really want it.~

Yeah it's ok. I just was trying to understand why a tractor/trailer would get stuck and now I understand. They don't explain it very well in the manual. It just says "don't do this". Well I want to know what do I do if this happens? Not just don't do it. So I'm sure I'll remember to check the landing gear before driving off. There is just so much information to look at and remember for these tests.
G13Tomcat Thanks this.
