i don't want to hijack this thread, but if you haven't read both books about the fairtax, you should. it works nothing like what you're explaining in your post.

Sounds like you need to look elsewhere than hauling fish. If you can't make a profit doing what you do, then find another shipper, broker, etc. etc. or change your own business plan and put yourself into something with less competion.

who says im not making profit?? at 2.30 a mile right now is a #### good rate even for a reefer...sure if you run local freight at 3-4dollars a mile im happy for ya...but i run my trucks all 48 states and back home i load LTL freight that pay full truck load so it does come out nicely sometimes even at 6 dollars a mile if you know what you doing ofcourse. All i was saying is that theres shippers that wont pay what u want no matter how bad you want it, it depends on the areas you live in and how hot the product is..is it frozen fish rotting on the dock?? like if i run reefers you betcha i know all my seasons in FL,CA, OR,WA and IL AR MO and thats where the money is at for me...another thing is being profitable all year around so sometimes you have to adopt your o/o to different areas depending on the season comprande?

Here I am posting again, just one of the general public that is struggling like everyone else. Gas just jumped to $3.55 this morning up from $3.45 last night. Now word is it will hit $5.00 a gallon for regular by the middle of summer. I am reading the post of those making money and I had to start chuckling because soon (very soon) anything you have to haul will not have a market that can afford to buy it. That is our country's truth.
The great ( I say this sarcastically) stimulus checks from the government are now coming in and also a reality check of; now our country owes China (who we borrowed it from) millions of dollars and the supposed $600.00 checks per person are not even the full amount the government said they would be (single mom just got her check it was $545.00).
The agency I volunteered for that helps anyone in need is now closed due to lack of funds, they just spent their last dollars on gas and food for the needy. This is the first time since the day they opened their doors 20+ years ago that the doors have closed.
I also heard on our local news about a new transportation depot that will eliminate an estimated 150,000 trucks off of Virginia highways.
So now we (the general public) can not only afford to buy what you bring deliver across country but my state is building some depot that will eliminate the trucking traffic considerably. Wonder how much longer before other states join in for this part of the reconstructing of America!
I understand the trucking industry, the in's and out's of it. I know you have to pass along your increases and those increases are hitting the grocery stores now and have been for the past few months and getting worse by the day.
The amazing thing to me is that has a country we are letting our government "reconstruct" us in a way that will eventually eliminate the poor, the elderly and the innocents (our kids). We are sending millions of dollars and food overseas yet again and our own next door neighbors are starving.

Sorry, I just needed to vent this morning!

thsi country is in dire straits, and it is getting worse. with fuel thishigh ,and going higher, how long do you think the big trucking comapnies, will stay on the road, before they start laying off drivers, and scale back to the bare bones. not long, for sure. Yes, we have shortages, in this country, and our local sam's club has a sign up over the rice, limiting our buys,
how long before gas, is rationed? many people are out of work, loosing homes, and having a really tough time of it.
we are in extremely hard times.
