Generator for the tractor

Be sure to check the rating on the battery charger then, if you go that route. 45 amps is a fair amount of charge for continuous rating though.
I see the window ones, and laugh every time. At the end of the day though, as I have said before many times, ANY solution to not idling is better than no solution.

Im thinking of doing this for my COE but how do you guys keep them from being stolen. A APU is bolted to the frame in a containment box how you keep these secure.

 

I've seen Honda 2000's chained to the steer axle, others mounted in boxes and the best one was a Honda 3000 mounted in a tarp box on a step deck. Guy had a fat extension cord going to the trailer. I liked that set up.

 

Mine is on brackets I made, and bolted to them with 4- 7/16" grade 8 bolts. The generator is bolted to a tray, then the tray is bolted to the brackets. The enclosure is also bolted to the tray on tabs I welded on and threaded. This bolts cannot be accessed without sliding the generator out. Never had anyone try to mess with it.

But of course, this guy rides along with me too, so may be another deterrent!

Ok I guess I'll try a truck salvage yard.I still your set-up. Was wondering if u keep the outlets covered (rain, snow, dirt) while u drive

 

That looks easy enough to make I think this is going to be my weekend project.

 

The plug is a waterproof one, and I have never had an issue with the sockets not being covered. I will make a door to cover most of the front, hinged at the top. You have to leave the lower part open, as that is the air intake for cooling etc. This is the 2nd one I have made for myself, so nothing new on this one. I also run drawer slides when I get time to do so, to make sliding it out a piece of cake. Been running around like crazy while I have been home and not had time so far though....

One bracket is 1/4" 6x6 angle, as it was trimmed to fit around the suspension hanger. Other side is 3x3 angle IIRC. Both have braces welded in and use the stock bolts, which are at least 1/2" diameter bolts.
I always use a tray to bolt the generator too, then in turn bolt that to the angle brackets. Tray is 1/8" on this one, which seems to work just fine. The front, rear and both sides have uprights, which provide a lot of strength. Bolts in the bottom of the EU3000is are M6x1.0 metric. Remove the Honda ones and fit longer ones that run through the tray and back into the generator. I run 7/16" bolts through the angle brackets and into the tray, which has the nuts welded to the inside of it.
Cover on this one is diamond plate aluminum, and bolted to the side uprights of the tray. Cover is open at the rear, to allow the exhaust a free way out.
