The aluminum ones I saw, for a Honda EU, were a LOT more than that. Care to post a link?
Like I said, when I get the time, I will make the door for mine. Not a big deal right now though.
Considering they are MADE to be outside, I dont see the stress over covering up the plugs myself. Never heard of a generators owners manual stating it's fine to use it indoors.....:biggrin_255:

I agree, I don't plan on using indoors and getting any carbon monoxide. I thought that water could damage the generator and void the warranty. Based on talking to others and reading different web site's it seem like its 50/50 with having it open to rain or using it in rain

My warranty says nothing about it getting wet and voiding the warranty.
I will make the door for it, but have some pretty important stuff going on at the moment (filed for citizenship vs my permanent residency), and so on.
The back has always been open though, to allow the exhaust gasses to escape. I know a guy who had a nice shiny box made for his EU3000.....and he has to leave the door cracked to run it as it is enclosed, slide it out to fuel it up, and so on. So maybe those boxes look pretty, but are as much use as a chocolate fireguard if some basic design thought isn't put into it. I can fuel mine up without moving anything, check and change oil without moving it etc, and so on.

    Consider this

These units are not commercial grade and are intended for being used outside but stored under cover.

Additionally this application subjects them to road spray and a whole list of chemicals in addition to the sun and weather.

I hear ye, and still never had a problem! Neither have the other folks I know with them....
Commercial warranty, so not sure on the not commercial grade stuff, but if the warranty covers it, fine by me.
Dont get the same thing by all means, but get something to stop idling!

I've seen TriPac housings, rust to the point of falling apart, on trucks running BC/AB. I had a generic generator mounted in a modified step-box, that opened like a battery box. The road spray found its way in and rusted everything. That ice melter is brutal stuff.

Next time it's going to be a sealed tarp box, but I'm not sure if just opening the door will be enough for proper air flow.

I think I found the perfect place to install this box. I was looking between tire and fuel tank but thought too much garbage from the road so I found between the legs on my headache rack it fits perfect I drill into it and secure it straight to it as for exhaust maybe some tubing and weld a exhaust pipe away from cab towards out side the cab and trailer will protect it from the element seems like the best place my rack is already diamond plate so the box will look stock .

I just did a google search and found exhaust for generator with muffler supposed to make them quieter and move exhaust away from you something to consider. What db are your generator I can find anything reasonable under 68 db at 7 yrds

Try 49-58dBA for the EU3000is. No extra exhaust junk needed:biggrin_25522: I can turn the eco idle off and still carry on a conversation in a normal voice, while stood right over it or next to it.
A chart for reference, as far as noise goes.

I researched a LOT before going with the EU3000 on my last rig. Considering that a "normal conversation" is carried out at 55dBA, I doubt there is a quieter generator out there, when the Honda is under that until it is running at full throttle!
I find the cheap gas generators annoying myself, some of them are true screamers when they are running next to you.
