They are out there, but they're not cheap.

You can buy a small room AC unit that is designed to stand in the room. It comes with a outlet hose to vent the hot air outside using a adapter that sits in the window sill. Or the AC unit can be mounted in the truck with the hot vent hose poking through the back of the cab. Much easier then a window unit.

The window unit can be as cheap as $109.

But this is a thread about generators.

No this seems to be a thread about generators, cooling the truck and a/c units.

Onan generators are available from some rv dealerships and can run off diesel or gasoline.

How can an engine run off diesel or gas??? Does the compression automatically rise 3 fold and the spark plugs shut off?? Sounds pretty goofy to me.

I wonder if a Honda EU2000 would be enough to run a ceramic heater for the cab and also the block heater? Im thinkin of riggin up a truck with this kinda set up next month...

Don't even consider any of the Onan generators. They are way too light duty, made for occasional RV use on a very smooth riding vehicle. I beat one to death after about 2 years and got less than 600 hours out of it before it was junk.

One word: HONDA The 3000i's are so tough Cat Entertainment Services uses them by the dozens at concerts and all kinds of outdoor events, and they cannot kill them. Quiet, will run anything you need. I run a 2400 ei Honda and it is great.

My Champion lasted about 1700 hours for one year. Although, it was very unprotected from the elements. The problem was deposit build up on the spark plug kept fouling it out and you'd have to remove the plug, clean it, and put it in again. And with the way it was mounted, the spark plug wasn't the easiest thing to reach. After about 800 hours or so, it really started to go through oil, as well. About 1/4 of a quart every week, roughly. Which, when it hit the low oil sensor, shut it off. However, the hours stated for maintenance and the hours I maintained it were way off. No way was I doing an oil change every 100 hours. That would be less than once a week when I was running in the summer last year. And, with it mounted, you'd have to unmount it, tip it, to get the oil to drain completely. Which was a time-consuming hassle. However, with the rate it was going through oil at the end, it was always full of fresh oil.

I'm planning on buying a new generator this year. Even with the hassles of a generator, it's way cheaper than an APU, and a lot less expensive and troublesome than an APU.

Skateboardman, the apu I have is a generation 4 proheat. It needs too much work for the money I don't have right now.

Things are fine at crst. Getting used to it all is taking awhile.
