Yeah looks like you would have to lay the truck over in the process. There is a hill coming out of Castlegar, BC, Im sure they have more modern runaways now, but used to just be like little log roads heading up the bank and you had to cross oncoming traffic to hit one. Then at the bottom of the hill there was a stop sign and the road came to a "T". 7 percent for 5 miles, then 6 percent for the last 5 miles if I remember right.

The first runaway ramp on Monteagle you have to cross traffic to get to. Never did understand that.
There's also another one that may as well have logs on it... The runaway ramp at the MeadWest facility in Al, you have to cross traffic and the two bumps will make your head hit the roof of your truck if you're not careful...Mr.X Thanks this. -
likely it was designed by EVIL KENEVIL
Rick Brown Thanks this. -
Oh dear god... Could you imagine if he was driving a semi in this day and age?
-
Sir, do you realize how fast you were going?
Of course not, the speedometer in these Petes only go up to 80!Rick Brown, Old Iron, Mr.X and 2 others Thank this. -
LEO: Sir, do you know why I pulled you over?
Because you wanted my autograph after I just jumped 6 cars with a semi loaded down to 76,000 pounds?
LEO: ...yes. Just sign on this line here and be in court.
Why in the hell am I going to court?!
LEO: 'Cause the boys in the station 'aint gonna believe this ####...R8Merk, Rick Brown and Mr.X Thank this. -
Highway 24 north of Kamloops, BC has a pretty cool runaway lane. It's a slight uphill grade and it has a long trough full of pea gravel. I'm guessing it's designed to bog the truck down so it gets stuck.

Don't think I have been that far north in BC, if the hills are like that hill I used to run 3 times a day then a stuck truck might be something a guy could laugh about later over a cold beer!
Yeah I saw a truck about 20 yrs ago, he used the runaway ramp on the Lewiston grade and left both his fuel tanks laying about 40' behind the truck, he didn’t just get stuck, he got towed and a nice big ticket! Had to laugh when I saw the signs on that hill now say "No Ticket for using runaway ramp" , I wonder how many wrecks they cleared off the 95/12 exchange before they finally got that bright idea!
White bird hasn’t changed much other than they dont let 53' through that stretch down to Riggins without a permit, which weeded out a lot of amateurs. -
BTW I think Georgia overdrive is fitting, because you would only do it once on some of the big hills in the US. I prefer "drifting" myself!

Highway 24's hill is pretty steep. About a 30 minute crawl down loaded with 40 tons on, jakes on 3rd stage the whole time. Glad the old man never put straight pipes on his trucks or he'd be deaf now lol.Vilhiem Thanks this.
