The worst I came across was a load that had no posted rate, from Midland to Houston. The broker wanted to pay $500 to haul crushed cars. I told him I wanted $2000 just for the embarrassment. He laughed. I laughed.

I asked him what the chances were he could get the load covered for that. He said, "You wouldn't believe how easy it is".

WTF???!!! Jeez, no wonder the fly by night single truck OOs disappear from the face of he earth before dawn. Every one of those rates would have to be AT LEAST doubled for me to even think of taking them... I'm not even an OO and I know that those rates don't even cover the overhead!

Try to find a load out of FL going to Canada.
We Canucks are restricted to cross border only freight in the USA.
I used to refuse any load into FL that didn't have enough in it to at least get me back to Atlanta.any load had to pay a minimum 2.50/all miles on flat or step And 3.50on a tandem run plus OD And permit ect. This was 10 years ago before I shut down my truck and went company driver.
And the only sitting in FL I did was loaded waiting on cranes or 10 hours to go north again.

That's odd, I see Canadian trucks all the time running in country loads...

If you are a US citizen or have dual citizenship working for a Canadian or dual country company then it is legal.
It is the driver not the truck that is restricted.it is a regulation of the US INS and also Canadian Immigration Service not the DOT and most DOT do not bother with that reg. The penalty can be a very hefty fine and exclusion from entering the USA and therefore most companies refuse to "interstate"
I do admit there are outlaws that do move loads against the rules but there are more US drivers doing so in Canada than Canadians doing so in the US.
