The fact of the matter is.........you are a number. Much easier to "pull you up" on the screen when you call in (even tho you have Q-comm). Yes drivers, you are in fact, just meat. (newbies are "fresh meat"). A warm body to get behind the wheel and drive that beast down the highway. I would cringe if I owned a trucking co. and sit in my mahogany lined office every day knowing I just spent $10 million for 100 new trucks this week in which 100 newbies fresh from school will be "driving " them, or I should say, beating the holy crapolla out of them.
I've worked for mega's and small operations that recognized my voice when I called in. And to be honest, I could care less, as long as my paychecks are there on time. That's because, I know my place, and my place is behind the wheel, navigating the ship, so to speak.
Get over the "im not a number" rant

They were always , respectful , truthful ,and took care of the drivers and all the other employees....there were times when disagreements happened of course but they were always settled in a fair way at least to my knowledge.
As far as medical conditions go , there was a driver , A diabetic , who got to where his eyesight wasn't good enough to pass the Minimum 20/40 that the DOT requires...lost his CDL's. The terminal manager not only made sure he got to keep his job , he "created" a job for him to be able to do until his disability retirement came through....just a number...nah...I had a heart attack in Oct. Of "05 and was out of work for 19 weeks recovering from it...At least once a week most weeks, much more on some weeks.... someone from the front office came knocking on my front door....for 19 WEEKS now.....I'm sure that I'm the odd man out here , but there are some good guys still out there. -
There are always exceptions to every rule. Nothing is 100% bad or 100% good. I am sure that there are some big carriers who love their drivers.

What I do here brings great joy to me. The honor to help someone else. I am a tiny fish in a big pond. I'm old, I'm grumpy, but I'm a hella of a driver. If I have your attention you may learn from my mistakes. If not you will make them yourself.

ive worked for a mega fleet (schneider) ive worked for a medium fleet (crst) and ive worked for a smaller fleet (currently sharkey) and i can honestly say that my dedicated route with schneider was the best. there were only about 50 drivers on the acount. i seen my dispatchers and fm every day face to face. we actually hada say in what happened on the route. having said that it was a special deal. the small fleet feeling with the backing of a mega fleet. if my rruck was down it got fixed right away. if i had a flat tire it was fixed.
crst was just total crap. nothing more to say there.
sharkey is the middle road. its 1100 trucks now i think but i think they got too big to fast and they are still trying to play catch up cause they are trying to run it like a small fleet and its not working. its not a bad company but they dont give vacation and they dont give raises. guys have been here 4+ years and still make .35 a mile just like when they started. shakreys line is" we give you free insurance thats worth .05 a mile easily. plus bonuses that equal so much a mile too so really your making this much it just doesnt show it on your checks." which is total crap. ive been here over a year and have yet to see a single bonus. not one. add on the no vacation plus the fact ive yet to gross over $1000 on a regular basis. time to move on im afraid. -
