I'd forget about the cement truck... Class A is a better job.... Period. Over the Road is much more stable.
They don't care about you. They'll hire, knowing that you're going to sit there most of the time. As far as they're concerned. It's your problem.

You do know. The cost of that school is tax deductible. Even if you don't file long form. File short and it's in there.

l have young kids so otr is not possible regional is more of an option. I also look for benefits and work it does check both boxes. But the class a provides more in the long run. I wonder if I give it a go for a year and see how it goes. Also this school has classes every 2 weeks it’s an 8 hour a day 4 week class. What I want to know is what will make more otr, regional vs cement overtime in town.

You can make the money in cement. The problem is, when you don't.
Basically, you're working construction with cement. No construction job is stable. No matter how much they pay.

I went Class B, 7 years ago. Now I'm going to school to upgrade. I consider Class A, better, period. You can find local and regional jobs. That Class A is valuable. Can always find work.

BTW: If I remember right. You're in Texas? ..... Look at Schneider's site for jobs in Texas. Tons of them. Local, Regional, Long Haul. Whatever you want.

@WesternPlains school is tax deductible? Forgive my ignorance, but is that true if you take a personal loan out for it? If so how does one do that? I normally do the ez form since ive never had much to deduct.

Get the class a license. With a clasd a license, you should be able to drive class b automatically so really you are just giving yourself a ton more options. Once you get experience, local ltl companies usually start at 20-21/hour and reach a cap in 2 years mostly bumping docks. In my area its 21ish starting and cap at 26ish. Most premium health benefits are like $10 a week for a single so you get an idea of what a family plan could be.

I don't think it matters if you got a personal loan for it. Goes in the same place as work expenses. Right there on short form.
I know you can't get a student loan for CDL school.

    Ray Strack Thanks this.

I’m in eastern Nebraska. Cement job starts at 19.00 an hour. Saturday’s are all time and half regardless how many hours you have. Night work between 8pm and 4am is time and a half.

Sounds like it is best to talk to an accountant. Cdl school might fall under lifetime learning credit, up to 20% of cost. For me thats $680, definitely worth looking into.

If you are considering a class B cement job, take it. To succeed in this job you have to be 100% dedicated.
