Be advised that its not trucking companies that set this policy of "recent" experience, its their insurance companies.

Another way for you get the "recent" experience is to partner with an OO who has his own authority. Drive with him for about 3 months and you can get on with Melton, Transam, and a few others that require only 3 months recent exp. US Xpress also only requires 3 months recent exp. for a company driver, Melton I think is actually 2 months.

I talked to a driver advocate that says a man called him with 25 years experience but got out of trucking about 7 years ago to take care of a sick family member. The sick person eventually died and he wanted to return to trucking but he couldn't get a job because he didn't have recent experience. Every company he called told him he would have to go back to truck driving school and start all over.

Another avenue you could try is putting an ad on Craigslist describing what you are all about and what you are looking for. That's what I did, received many dozens of replies. Unfortunately most of them spoke with a funny accent and had extremely poor safety ratings. But one small company owner seen my ad, responded and it has been a match made in heaven.

Thats true fly boy. I'm getting back into it too after a hiatus and found I have to go thru school again. But, because I have experience the trainer may dump you after a trip and say, load this guy up. but, they will evaluate you for the number crunchers.
