I use used SSB extensively when I was on the road. I knew who would be on the different SSB channels (USB & LSB) in different areas of the US & Canada so would touch base with them or have many late night gab fests with them. I know (or knew) at least three dozen OTR truckers who used SSB almost exclusively I from what I have learned, the list is growing.. SSB is still not heavily populated with idiots at this point in time and a person gets to gets to enjoy some intelligent conversations: for the most part.

 

You need a good toy to start with.
One of the easiest CBs to modify; especially if it has a Viagra board. Cobra has one that is almost equally easy to modify. I just cannot remember the model for some senior moment reason.

NO, actually I had it cranked wide open and carried on a one sided conversation from about Earl AR to 15 miles east of Memphis. Just acted like I was talking skip to the guy in Fairbanks AL that I visit with on SSB from time to time. I am sure the drug lords of Memphis were cussing me,,,,,,,,,,,but I am sure they made up for it as soon as I was out of range. I did my 45 minutes of "good dead" though

 

Good for you. I have a buddy that lives over there I should go visit. I'll bet my little KL 300 would be enough to blank them out if I stayed fairly close to the truck stops.

 

Yes they still do! The FCC has a site where they show citations issued, But mostly they are too tied up checking on broadcast stations, cable, etc. On this FCC enforcement site, You will see some CB Shops and individuals mixed with other companies etc that was issued citations... But don't worry !! It's getting fewer than it was 5-8 years ago on CB enforcement . Recently, I had some email me asking the difference in radios I sell because you cannot advertise 10 meter radios as CB's or converted to CB frequencies ! Here's the FCC page..
