Hmmm. I worked haul trucks (aggregate) when Lattimore Materials did their own hauling in the DFW area. They disbanded their hauling shortly after I left around 2008?. Made pretty decent money then. Nothing smaller then $1,000 gross week and fairly consistent work on the 16:00-04:00 shift (usually done by 02:00), year round and we were running on ton rates, running out of Denison yard, mostly out of Thackerville, and Stringtown to plants in north Dallas area.

Looks like things have changed a lot in the past 10 years. Lattimore was a class operation at the time. Do they even still do concrete mixer work?

Lattimore sold off their bulk Division to Sunset, but they still run plants and mixers. Only "bulk" division they keep around are some pneumatic concrete powder setups, and those dont ever hire.

Sunset and 2 other companies offer an 850/week minimum now, but you have to run out of their Bridgeport yards right outside the quarries.

For example running Bridgeport to Fort Worth pays about 1.75 a ton to the driver at 24%. So even if you scale 28tons net you're only looking at about 49$ for a 3+ hour run.(including deadhead and load/unload times).

Market is really saturated right now in DFW, tons of people who used to run frac sand and pipe are hauling aggregate to make ends meet until the next oil boom.

Best advice I once received was: "The grass is always greener on the other side if you don't water your own #### grass."

If you're happy and you enjoy getting experience that way, have at it.

Extruded parts and a Conestoga? You got it made. Because of no tarping.

Stick to what you are doing. Do not make moves rashly.

Do save up some money each payroll. That way it's freedom when you definately know it's time to change jobs. Do not quit work without already arranged for going to the next one.

Sounds like a decent enough job. You are being compensated for all your time. Company paid for your training because they see potential in you. Are you at bottom of pay scale at the company? Are there longevity increases? Stay put for a year or more.

Your actually doing very well for just starting out & believe there are many out here that would leap for your local gig. Bennies too.....? Ah, not bad at all for a greenhorn.

Biggest thing is.....are YOU happy & satisfied with what you have? Don't get greedy now, but are you actually happy & your needs met.....? Unusual for just starting out. So, count your blessings, if so.

You can ALWAYS do better somewhere else, once you have experience & clean record under your belt. There is ALWAYS something better. But, at what trade offs & what cost? It's all dependant on what YOU can provide & offer, & what actually suits YOUR circumstance & desires. All relative........without a doubt. And, all in your own hands & control.

Key is finding WHERE to get that experience & how you will be treated while there. Often, it is a suffer through time situation, just to get it under your belt. Often, up to a year & an over the road experience with minimal hometime.

Sounds like you are in a good position, especially starting out. Hope it all works out for you & you stay happy.

Even if you are happy (right now..), listen to the sage advice of @x1Heavy.

Put some money aside every pay in a no touch fund. Leave it alone & DO NOT touch it! No touch, means NO TOUCH dagnabbit! LOL

Things always change. You will change, both with your situation & your expectations. Your company may change. You WILL NOT be a consideration at all if your company changes for the worst. This will help cover you in any event that either of those circumstances do change (and, my bottom dollar says any of the above will change, without fail!), at some point.

Will give you that extra cushion to look around for that "greener grass", if/when you do have occasion to foray away, or if something suddenly happens.

Sounds like you got good gig for now.
Definately hope the best for you.

    Good Luck to you.

These people want him to quit so that they can recruit him to work for their POS company, and they will make a little money for their reference.

Had a "friend" do that to me once. I was making twice the money he was and this fool was trying to recruit me. "Goeth Intercourse Thyself."

Mr @Bonzo , from this moment forward, avoid the negative talk. And keep your business YOUR business.

to me, an old timer, having a decent atmosphere at work is worth money. so is decent benefits.

peace of mind means less stress.

some people are all about the money and get treated like crap, drive barely legal equipment, but, " oh ,I make 3 times more than you", and yet you hate the company . lol.
. sounds like you have a good gig going. I'd stay.
