Same boat here. Sucks and is humbling to the point of being humiliating. I've run hopper off the grid more recently... while helping meet expenses it doesn't help get me a legit job.

I see Werner, .26 CPM and a trainer with 6 months experience in your future.

Nope, I will go to work at the Walmart Distribution Center at $15 an hour 40+hour weeks first. I would just prefer to drive, if its in Gods plan for me I will drive, if not then I will be doing something else.

Where are you located? Chinatown will be along soon to help you out. The dude has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to trucking companies.
Just because you took a break from trucking doesn't mean you have to go with a mega. You will have to get off your ### and look for a job but don't let anyone tell you that you'll need to spend weeks with a trainer!Rooster903 Thanks this. -

Yeah try ltl. Go for Saia FedEx, old dominion. Start on the dock if you have to and work up. Dock should pay more than wally. But hours will swing more.Try YRC pay is lower than other ltl with15% give backs, but its union and has a wicked awesome pension.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. Granted, my hiatus from the industry was 30 years, but I still had to go through all the hoops to regain my CDL, then go out with a trainer for the full meal deal. Now I'm a trainer for Swift and my current trainee has five year's experience and doesn't need training other than learning the ropes with the Qualcomm and general way of doing business within Swift, but has to go through the full training program. A waste of resources. Drivers like that (and like me) should be able to test out and get into a truck or go through an abbreviated program.
For what it's worth the pay scale is increasing. I've heard Prime's training program is pretty good for pay, don't know about Schneider, and Swift's still stuck with the minimum wage +$1 for driving. Once solo at Swift you start at $0.33 / mile in dry van or reefer and $0.37 / mile in flatbed.
Basically you have to look at it like going through boot camp all over again. Earn your stripes and get yourself into position to either transfer to dedicated within the company you trained with or go to a company that will take the 3 mos, 6 mos, or 1 year experience and go from there.Rooster903 Thanks this. -
