I have no problem getting home, even if its just an overnight stay. El Paso is a good location for that.

When I was OTR, I worked for Zumstein Inc. out of Lewisburg, Ohio and their policy was home EVERY weekend. That being said, a weekend could be getting home Saturday afternoon/evening and leaving again Sunday afternoon/evening, this was well before the re-start rule came into existence. Most weeks I did get home late Friday night, early Saturday morning and left Sunday evening. I got word my Grandfather passed away on a Wednesday evening near the end of my day when I was near Syracuse, NY under a wine load going to Indy. They told me to beat feet to the Lewisburg terminal to get an empty to go home with and call them when I was ready to come back to work. They were really good people to work for.

I've never had to deal with a company that wouldn't get me home, I'm lucky there.

Now I'm in LTL, I run at night only, and I'm home everyday. It's not for everyone, I run the same run or two everynight, Monday through Friday. It's boring as all get out but it pays more than I've ever made in this industry.

I'm home darn near every night, I was running swing shift one week of days then one week of nights 6 to 6, but I've got an assigned truck starting march first and permanent daylight, 4 to 6.

I'm usually home on time, it has gotten better since i (politely) went off on my dispatcher for getting me home a week late when my GF was with me and ran out of meds. Told him if he didn't get me home asap I would have to detour to the emergency room for her to get meds. Didn't think she'd need more than a weeks extra pills and she isn't set up to get meds over the road like most truckers can.

I also remind him not to be sending me south less than a week before my hometime.

This is why you choose a company based out of, or with a terminal, near your home. If your home is not in their primary operating area, then you already know it will be tough to get home before you go to orientation.

I have no problem getting home. I normally give my dispatcher a window of 48 hours in which I need to be home. Wiley may not be the highest paying company but gets me home on time, gives me extra day if I need it, and never hassles me. Only gripe is when I have to come to the yard, then I will be there for a full day no matter what.
