Right now the way the rates are you are better off Going to Crete and doing a finance, once you pay off your truck if you want to go elsewhere you can. At Crete you will get a certain rate depending on the miles. You get a paycheck ever Friday and you are not waiting on a Broker to settle the score, you will have some owner ops telling you that your chasing miles, but I have run the numbers on other outfits that pay you a percentage of the load that you haul. Sounds good on paper but it's either the same as milage or lower. I am just giving you something to consider good luck.

That is terrible advice. People who own trucks that don’t want to get their own authority should seriously look around more before going with the biggest mega. There are many companies paying atleast 50 cents more per mile then Crete.

Get away from the mega mindset and look at smaller companies.

Listen to Trucking with Authority podcast/YouTube channel; look into OOIDA and NASTC; and search for older questions about authority in this forum.

It would be very nice to have 30-50k saved up, but it is possible to pull it off with less and sign up with Quick Pay (provided by brokers) or a factoring company. I believe getting into this business with a solid financial background and being knowledgeable in the subject is the way to go. Business is already risky as it is.

Maybe check out things called load boards where brokers post freight available. There is one called DAT and one called Truck Stop that are popular. Google em and start doing research.

I’m sorry, but you shouldn’t give that advice . Is totally wrong . You should try to be on your own, believe me you will not go back .

First thing you need to do is get a quote on insurance for a "New Entrant"...Try starting with Progressive.
I just got one and it was near $30,000.00..

I waited until the end of the whole process and wasted a lot of time and money..

If you decide to proceed after that, I will be glad to give you some pointers on the process..

What did you do as a driver to get that quote??? I just helped a friend of mine to do his paper work and he is gong to pay 16000 per year with progressive . 6 years driving experience. Clean record
Just because you got that quote doesn’t mean everyone is going to pay that .
