How much more do you expect to make by not leasing to a big trailer delivery co?

Not much more, I just want the leash off my neck. I want to deal with customers directly and live life on my own terms. Had a few companies before in other careers. Never much more money and a lot more hassle, but at least you're your own boss ya know

I give anyone props for getting their own authority and doing what it takes to try and make it work, I personally worked for a trucking company for a very very short time and then went on my own, sure it's hard and it's definetly not for everyone, you'll make mistakes along the way but as long as you learn from them, that's what counts, people looked at me like I was an alien when I said I was getting my own authority and sure I made some mistakes along the way but now I'm happier than ever and making way more than I would be at a company that could care less about me, as for the power only, I can't give an opinion on that because I've always leased a trailer to see what I liked best, van, reefer, or flatbed, as you can see in my pic, I like flatbed, anyway, good luck in your new adventure, let all of the hate push you harder to succeed!!!

Funny you say that scuba Steve, I've already done dry van, reefer, hazmat, tanker.... but never flatbed. If I decided to go that way and buy one, anything I should know?

Just like having your own authority isn't for everyone, same thing goes for flatbed, lot more work vs just closing doors but I like it a lot, what I did was leased the trailers for a month each, started with a van trailer, then leased a reefer for a month, then a flatbed for a month, I wanted to see which I liked before committing to one and buying a trailer.

    MSS Thanks this.

600-800 per month, not cheap by any means but better than buying a particular trailer only to find out you hate the type of work that goes along with it.

I'm hoping to get my authority by the end of this year or beginning of next, trying to get all my ducks in a row. Probably go flatbed and move out of Colorado.

I will Steve, the way I look at it a driver has only so many years to drive, after close to 20 years of driving some success here and there with various companies and dependent on them for $ probably gonna make 20k less this year and with our insurance going from a$500 deductible to a 5000 Might need to move on.
