I have an appointment for my physical tomorrow at my local hospital so I can sit to take my permit test at the DMV.
My question is do most trucking companies except a medical card you already have? I read that starter companies have in house docs and give you another physical there. Why is that? Do some of these companies use lax docs to push through newbies?
I would think my medical card issued from a hospital would be very trustworthy.

It's not that. It's just "the way we've always done it" mentality. The good news is it won't cost you anything. Sucks that you had to pay to get a medical card for such a short time, but since the company will pay for your newest one (per their policy) it really isn't worth getting upset over

It's $95 and the way hospitals move with billing I won't see the bill for a few months. The lady told me you won't get a bill for awhile. -
They will want a fresh physical, pretty standard in the industry. More about Insurance liabilities than shady doctors.

Some companies accept your current DOT medical card. They usually just give a drug test. They will want a copy of the long form though, so keep that in a safe place.
1278PA and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
Chinatown has a list of companies that accept existing med cards, but I wouldn't choose a company based on that unless your are pretty sure you won't get a full 2yr card from a new physical.
I imagine companies like doing their because of shady med cards that were floating around years ago. -
