when i went to school to get my class A the most nervous part for me was taking the test at the DMV, even my first load on a tractor trailer was not that nervous, but i had 10 years with my class B in a cement mixer, nothing like grossing 64-68 thousand pounds on and being top heavy

good luck and dont worry you will get it

amen on the 50 acre field remark. just remember that the shorter the trailer, the faster it will respond to input from the tractor resulting in oversteer if you turn the wheel too deep.

the age old trick of sliding the tandems to make backing easier has its downfalls as well. the trailer overhang will bite anyone if they are not paying attention. always GOAL (Get Out And Look). never take space for granted. i saw a 30 year vet who was an owner op tear the hood off a Swift truck last summer because he was too hot sh-t to get out and look before he started the blind side backing to the parking spot.

A quick update for anyone interested. Went to the DMV today and used their lot to practice (closed on Mondays). Started the day having trouble with my 45 degree backing, but by the afternoon I had everything dialed in. In fact, I aced an entire practice run. Shame it wasn't the real thing.

Thanks for the all the advice. Nervousness is beginning to fade and I am feeling more and more confident behind the wheel. I am scheduling to take my official skills and road test next week.
